A Room of Your Own: 15 Inspired Garage Remodels

I noticed quite a few garage mods on my daily walk to get away from the kids before I burst. Makes sense. As remote work becomes the norm for many families, homeowners are increasingly craving more private space. With the help of a contractor and architect, an unused garage can be turned into a dream, including a separate yoga room, guest bedroom, art studio, and garage bar (a popular garage conversion in my town for good reason). It can become any space you look at. As long as local building codes allow.

In my case, I’m considering converting my currently musty, dusty, and very disorganized garage into a quiet home office where I can work for a few hours without interruption. There, you are far from the constant need for snacks and drinks. Increase screen time (if the child whines and the mother is not around, has that happened?).

Here are 15 amazing garage conversions from our archives that will make your dreams come true.

Although this amazing transformation actually involved a dilapidated shed (rather than a garage), its design lessons can easily be applied to garage conversions as well. Check out Before & After: A San Francisco abandoned house is transformed into an artist's studio.
