Congratulations on your 70th birthday!

Last weekend, our young family came to visit and we celebrated my dad’s 70th birthday with all of his favorite things: basketball pizza party (also came with Duke cake!), Chinese food, and hiking. , an afternoon in the vineyard, and all the grandchildren. around him. To remember our weekend, we had Sarah Kramer Shields take some family portraits. It’s an irreplaceable memory! I’ll be sharing lots of photos later this week.

Dad wasn’t the only one who received a gift upon arrival. Gus got a new lobster from the Grammys!

Friday: Dinner at Peter Chang’s

Everyone drove up on Friday, so we piled into the car to head to Peter Chan’s house for dinner. My dad loves Chinese food, so I surprised him with this dinner by telling him we were going to a very expensive farm-to-table restaurant. He was very happy!

Thomas goes to research birthday desserts and clementines come up as the best option. Our server said it represented good luck!

saturday hike

Saturday morning, we fueled up for the hike!

Ellen, an avid hiker, was our guide and helped us choose trails. We wanted to drive to the mountains and chose the Ragged Mountain Trail because of its proximity to downtown and a beautiful reservoir. It was amazing! Thank you, Ellen, for helping me plan this!

The little ones returned home with their mother and we hiked about 6 miles in perfect weather.

Bellair’s Sandwich

On my way home, I ordered a Bel Air Market sandwich. Always so good after a hike!

girls afternoon

The boys had golf plans in the morning, so the girls went shopping! We went to J Crew Factory where we got this dress.

And to make the most of our time, we had coffee and tea at Greenberry’s.

Be careful where you place your tattoo the day before the family photo 😉

downtime

basketball pizza party

Saturday night I threw a basketball themed pizza party for my dad.

UVA may have had a beer theme, but the cake theme was definitely for dads. Caked Up Cville made an amazing Duke cake! We raved about how perfect it was for my dad, who had season tickets for Duke baseball all his childhood. In case you didn’t know, my parents met at Duke University.

It was a slam dunk!

We had a few games planned: Cliff Trivia, Name That Tune from his favorite song, and Charades. He was also presented with lots of cans of mixed nuts, his favorite food.

Sunday

On Sunday morning, the young dads played golf, and the young dads and their friends went to the playground.

family photos

We had a session with Sarah at 1pm. I absolutely loved all the photos she took.

sunday funday

We ended the day enjoying cheese, wine, and games at King Family Vineyards.

By the time we got home after watching a movie that night, everyone was full and tired. For dinner, we had a simple quiche, soup, and pot pie.

The kids spent a lot of time on the trampoline! We don’t have them. Sarah took some great shots!

It was a great weekend full of family!
