Good hair days aren’t just what you want. It’s worth a little effort to actually achieve them. Fortunately, it can be innocent, especially if you have a well-prepared, professional hair health tip.

1. Wash like a professional
On washing days, focusing not only on the strands but also on the scalp. “A beautiful scalp is the foundation of healthy hair,” says Rogerio Cavalcante, a hairstylist and owner at a salon upstairs in New York. “Use lukewarm water, gently massage the scalp with your fingertips (not your nails) and avoid the product with harsh sulfates and alcohol that can remove moisture.”
As to how often you should wash, Cavalcante suggests doing so every other day, or at most every three days. “A week without washing can lead to accumulation and scalp irritation,” he warns. Again, he emphasizes that a healthy scalp is the key to maintaining healthy hair.
2. Don’t underestimate the power of a good brush
Cavalcante suggests buying a wooden or boar bristle brush to direct your hair health in the right direction. “They distribute natural oils from the scalp to the hair shaft,” he shares. “This will naturally condition your hair and reduce the chances of breakage.”
3. Use heat modestly
There may be heated tools in your styling lineup, but it doesn’t mean that you’re benefiting anything to promote hair health and prevent damage. Therefore, Cavalcante advises to keep in mind the following tips for applying heat to your hair:

“If you find yourself constantly fighting the volume and texture of your hair with flat iron, consider a smooth treatment like keratin, rather than frying the strands every day,” he shares. “It’s a much healthier option in the long run.” It’s also helpful to always air dry and use a more cooler setting with a blow dryer.
4. Lean into the sun-safe hair habit
Extreme UV rays do not only damage the skin. Cavalcante says it can wreak havoc by drying out hair, blowing away colours, or burning the scalp. That being said, if he spends his time outdoors, he recommends using a UV filter to use hair products. He also gives the hat a green light due to the physical barrier of protection.
5. Loosen your hair
Do you want to restore your hair every day? Doing so may be convenient and low noise, but it also emphasizes your strands. “Daily, a super tight ponytail or refined pan can lead to hairline damage and traction hair removal,” Cavalcante warns. Loosen your hair frequently, use accessories that do not cause breakage, and make sure it doesn’t get too tight or tight.
6. Eat methods to improve your hair health
Proper hair care products and habits will do many heavy lifts to support your hair, but your diet can also bring you closer to a longer, stronger, and more attractive lock. “We maintain a balanced diet rich in iron, zinc and vitamin D to promote hair follicle health and growth,” advises Michele Green, MD, board-certified NYC cosmetic dermatologist.

“Foods with antioxidants can protect hair and scalp from UV damage, oxidative stress, and free radical damage, such as strawberries and dates, and prevent breakage,” she adds.
7. Complement the results of supercharge
On the vitamins and supplement front, Dr. Green adds that biotin and vitamin B help support overall hair health and growth. “Hair growth is dependent on vitamins and minerals, and a lack of these nutrients can significantly hinder hair growth,” she explains.
Consider taking supplements like ham hair daily with strong daily use. Contains biotin, folic acid (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, and zinc, FO-TI, and PABA. Together, these help support hair growth, bloating, strength, and even color.
8. Don’t skip night hair care
Before jumping into bed, Cavalcante recommends applying a small amount of nutrient oil, such as Argan or Jojoba, to maintain hydration and prevent breakage. “Silk or satin pillowcases can also help reduce friction and frizz,” he adds. (Bonus: The luxurious materials also help with skin health.)
