14 Virginia Romantic Vacations

I have been to most of these properties and can guarantee its facilities and service. And we can’t wait to visit the few people on our bucket list.

Veritas Farmers

Built in 1836, this bed and breakfast is located just outside Charlottesville in Afton, Virginia. This beautiful farmhouse consists of six cozy bedrooms with stunning views, and is an event space for weddings and parties, right next to Veritas Vineyard.

5-6 wine time every night. Your room will also receive a complimentary bottle of Veritas wine, including two glasses. They also offer four course farm-to-table dinners from Tuesday to Saturday to Saturday, including wine pairings. We did it a year ago and it was amazing! One thing to note about dinner is not to allow children under the age of 16.

Primland Resort

This 12,000-acre mountainous area is a hidden gem in the middle of western Virginia. We spent the weekend with a large group a few years ago and it was incredible. Auberge Resort, the rooms were very luxurious and the food on the premises was amazing. You can stay in the main lodge, cottage or tree house. It also includes a sports club with golf, pheasant photography and hunting, and a wellness spa with an indoor pool and hot tub.

Keswick Hall & Spa

This gorgeous property is located just outside Charlottesville. This real estate hotel features Uber’s luxury rooms and the most beautiful infinity pool. Keswick is my go-to spa in town. The best spa, high-end products, infrared saunas and gorgeous relaxation rooms ever. Thrare is also a lovely golf course and a new fitness center. Dining at Marigold, famous by Jean-Georges or Crawford’s, serving cocktails and small menu plates.

Historic Accommodation in Auckden

Built in 1893, this mansion is the most luxurious place to stay in downtown Staunton, about 30 minutes from Charlottesville. Built for Lieutenant Governor Edward Ecole, the facility features eight rooms with king-sized bedding, a game room, two sunrooms and an outdoor patio with fire pit tables. It’s still a self-service accommodation to get away and we loved to feel like we were staying at someone else’s home. The linen, bedding and bathroom were very nice and recently renovated. Visit restaurants in downtown Stanton, nearby wineries, hiking trails and more.

Jefferson Hotel

One of my favourite places to stay in Richmond is the Jefferson Hotel. The Jefferson Hotel is one of the most amazing facilities in the city. You can choose between a room or a suite. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped. Enjoy breakfast or lunch at TJ’s restaurant. Afterwards, enjoy a drink and dinner at LeMer. Every Sunday, there is also Champagne Brunch and Afternoon Tea on Fridays and Saturdays. Jefferson has a fitness centre, an indoor pool and also offers massages.

Clifton

Here in Cville, this is where we got married! The main house with B&B style rooms allows you to stay in one of the cottages and stable homes with colouring if you want privacy and space. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available at the 1799 restaurant. (The copper bar has some great smoke old-fashioned smoke!). The grounds and gardens are very beautiful. There’s an infinity pool, a hot tub and even a hidden lake!

Williamsburg Inn

Williamsburg Inn is a colonial Williamsburg gem and is a luxurious 4-star resort with 62 ornate rooms. The property opened in 1937 and was planned and built by John D. Rockefeller Jr. Dine at Rockefeller and enjoy a drink at the restoration bar. The spa was also very nice and I enjoyed a great massage there!

Iris Inn

If you’re looking for a mountain vacation, the Iris Inn near Waynesboro, Virginia is one of my favourite stays! Rooms are selected for the main inn or one of the cabins. We stayed in a private, spacious cabin, each with its own hot tub! There is a spa on site and breakfast and dinner in a great room (breakfast is included!)

Visit the historic Stanton and Waynesboro, accessing 28 different wineries, hiking trails, Shenandoah National Park and four different presidential homes. Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive will have your favorite hikes like Hampback Rock and Crabtree Falls within 30 minutes.

Willow Grove inn

If you’re looking for peace and tranquility in the countryside, head to the Willow Grove accommodation. Located on 40 acres in the middle of Virginia’s countryside, the accommodation is located in Orange, Virginia (if you’ve heard of it, there’s also Woodbury Forest School).

We stayed in one of their Creekside cottages and were very good! There was a pouch and a swing. If you are there in the summer, lay it on the property and take a dip in the saltwater pool at Millhouse. They also have a full spa on site. The vintage restaurant and pub serves dinner and drinks, a full breakfast and Sunday brunch.

Homestead

We have been to Homestead several times and found it to be a great all-in-one property. It is undergoing slow renovations, so it still feels very vintage, but the accommodation is modern and luxurious. The property has multiple restaurants, shopping, golf and spa. The spa and Hot Springs traditions around it are one of the best features. Get a one-day pass or use a facility with spa treatments. The Aqua Thermal Suite is so fun!

We’ll stay during our Christmas season

Georges

Georges is a boutique inn in Lexington, Virginia, about an hour’s drive from Charlottesville. Perfect place for a romantic evening!

Georges opened in 2014 and is spread among several different historic buildings on Lexington’s Main Street. Between the historic buildings there are 33 rooms and suites uniquely designed with modern amenities to reflect the duality of the destination. There is a Haywood piano bar and grill, the inn’s signature restaurant across the street, a tap, a lobby bar and two restaurants, a lounge that serves small plates and drinks. Tap is also a place where breakfast is served.

Three romantic hotels I haven’t tried yet!

Cavalier Hotel and Beach Club

Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this is where you’ll stay in Virginia Beach. Their beach clubs include an infinity pool, access to a private beach, an outdoor bar and a climate-controlled member lounge. Or relax at the Sea Hill Spa.

Salamander Resort and Spa

The award-winning property, just an hour outside DC in Middleburg, is the first in the region to win the Forbes Five Star Award. There is an on-site equestrian centre, tennis courts, golf and grass games. I’ve heard that the spa is really good!

Green Briar Resort

The Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia is another major historic property with so many activities (it returned before the Civil War in 1778!). I can’t believe I’ve never been before! They have golf, pools, spas, casinos, mountain climbing towers, arcades, bowling, mountain biking, fishing, horse riding, indoor pools and more!

What is the most romantic place in Virginia you’ve been to?

Whether you’re riding on Blue Ridge Mountain or enjoying chocolate covered strawberries for a wine tasting, you can enjoy a romantic weekend getaway!
