When you are in the overwhelming emotional pain, it can make you completely engrossed.
Mindfulness practices can help you realize when this will happen.
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, you can use this exercise to come back here.
It takes just a few minutes to expand your invitation.
Leave your eyes open and note five things you can see.
You can say them loudly or quietly in your head.
In each of the five sights, pause to fully incorporate them.
Next, note four things you can feel in your body.
Please note them out loud or in your head,
And for a few deep breaths, take your attention with each sensation.
Name the three things you can hear.
Try choosing three different sounds rather than the same noise.
Note two things that can smell.
If you don’t seem to be able to smell the two at this moment, move somewhere and make sure you smell it more closely.
Finally, find something to taste.
