Slicing into quarters will cause some liquid to appear at the bottom of the bread. Tilt the pan over the sink to remove any liquid. Warm up the toasted sourdough bread or use a low-carb diet with lettuce.

Cottage Cheese – This provides a creamy texture to the main source of protein and casserole. Depending on your preference, you can use full or low fat cottage cheese here. Eggs – Eggs act as binders and combine all the ingredients to create a cohesive casserole structure. Egg Whites – Adding extra egg whites increases the protein content without adding fat, and maintains casserole light. Baby Spinach – This brings a mild, earthy flavour and adds a healthy dose to your dish. If you are using frozen spinach, you should first cook it to remove excess water. Parsley – This fresh herb adds a vibrant, slightly peppery flavour that brightens the casserole. For similar fresh notes, finely sliced spring onions can also be used. Grated Parmesan – This cheese offers a salty umami flavor that complements other ingredients. Feta cheese also serves as a delicious alternative. Grated Mozzarella – The mozzarella adds a delicious blend of texture and mild milky flavor to the top of the casserole. You can also use grated cheddar to use a sharper cheese flavour. Garlic Powder – This dried spice offers a warm, delicious garlic flavor that enhances the overall flavor. Dried Oregano – Oregano adds a classic and aromatic herbaceous note, giving the casserole a Mediterranean touch.

Carine’s tips

Let me share some tips for the perfect casserole!

Spinach Drainage – If you are using frozen spinach, make sure to cook it and squeeze any excess water. This prevents the casserole from becoming watery. Add protein – Don’t limit yourself to base recipes! Stir in 1/2 cup of excess protein, such as shredded rotisserie chicken or cooked mushrooms (cook instead of raw and cooked to avoid excess water). Cheese Swap – Try different cheeses and change the flavor profile. Try feta instead of parmesan or use cheddar instead of mozzarella for another cheesy taste. Drain the liquid – Always drain the liquid that collects at the bottom of the pot after baking. This helps prevent casserole from gaining wetlands. Individual Storage – For best results, store each cooling slice individually in a fridge airtight container. This keeps them fresh for longer. Proposals to offer – This casserole is delicious on its own as a high protein diet. Alternatively, you can offer fresh green salads for low carb options. For those who haven’t seen carbs, the toasted sourdough bread is great. Smooth Blend – Make sure the egg and cheese mixture is completely smooth after blending. This creates a uniform texture in the casserole. Evenly Distribution – When adding spinach and herbs to the pan, spread them evenly before pouring the egg mixture. This ensures flavor for every bite. Check your mood – make sure the casserole is cooked and gently shake the pot. The center should be set and there should be no shaking.
