A small black dress ruled the 90s, but now it’s denim turn. It’s no surprise that denim officially leveled its status to the overwhelmingly luxurious items in our wardrobe. There are more ways to wear it, and there are more ways to make it yours.
We were all denim enthusiasts at this point and were at school in the art of perfecting everything from curated chill weekend to post-party shenanigans. From High Street Steel to Designer Dreams, with eye-opening options available today, we are still finding ourselves in an endless quest for the perfect jeans and their elusive denim shirts.

I adore denim cords, skirts, vests and shorts, but for this feature I am particular about the ultimate classic, double denim. An iconic American combo of perfect jeans and denim shirts.
Mastering the look of double denim has one important detail. It’s a contrast. Pair your jeans with a light or dark tint of denim shirt to make the atmosphere cooler and more comfortable. Also, don’t be embarrassed to play with proportions. Sizing over or under a denim shirt can lead to endless layers. Throw it in spring or pair it with a sophisticated roll neck in autumn, living in its cool, cool look.
So there’s no more ADO (and with just a few tips on retail therapy from brands owned by these women), here are my six favorite American designers (they’re all keepers and not resold here).

Folding Jean is your dream of throwing back. This cool, vintage-inspired fit never loses style. It’s your request to see long, lean, timeless. Designed by native Californians, there is no more authentic collection than this denim collection by Jamie Haller.
B side
B-sided Jeans | Relaxed Cuff Drasso Jersey Vista Blue
Made to master the most difficult fit, B-side jeans not just wear it, they evolve. Fade, a variety of jeans that improve with each year. Just like real denim should!
Ula Johnson
Ula Johnson | Usher Jandnow River
I was a fan from the start. The outfits on the back are either bare feet on a Portuguese cliff or dress up for a chic city dinner, and the jeans are truly NYC style and feel directionless without hard work.
Separately each
Apart from each | Meridian Jean
Another NYC favourite with a design philosophy rooted in real life: “Can she wear it at least once a week?” Are they lined up with their denim? A reliable wardrobe hero in seasons.
Nili Rotan
Nili Rotan | Collins Denim Shirt
One of my favorite denim shirts. Nostalgia is the centre of Nili Rattan women. Looking at her collection and how she wears it is clear why so many women are drawn in. It’s emotions, moods, memories.
TWP
twp | The daughter of a hemp denim rancher
Since my debut in 2021, TWP has captured my imagination. Its sophisticated silhouette nods to classic American workwear, bringing an incredible balance of elegance and utility. It seems to be put together without feeling precious, and it’s today’s sweet spot!
