Dyson has released a new air rap, but it’s the best air rap ever. Have we said this before? Yes (four times in the last 7 years). Do we mean that? of course.
However, the difference is clear this time. Many of us have had to study the changes between models to truly appreciate the brand’s efforts to improve devices that are already loved. The base shape is different and you will literally feel the change in the motor on your face. And those are our first impressions. First, we dive into the Co-Anda 2x.
So far, Dyson Air Wallaps
Refresher: Dyson first launched the Air Lap Complete in 2018, changing her hair style. With a base designed around six attachments and a Coanda effect (aerodynamic phenomenon in which high-speed air attaches the hair to a nearby curved surface, in this case), beginners like me can be resilient, lasting, and fresh blowout from the salon. Pros work even faster and seamlessly with various attachments and can be packed lightly when traveling domestically.
But while it was piling up praise (including multiple attractive Best of Beauty Awards), Dyson was quietly working to improve the Styler even further. Over time we saw a lot of new attachments (including curly and hard hair diffusers with much needed long barrels). Last year, AirWrap ID came to the market with newly added Bluetooth features (and thus allowing you to connect to the Mydyson app) and many more attachments. It is also available as two different kits. One for curly and/or hard hair, the other for straight or wavy hair.
Currently, Dyson is releasing Coanda 2x in the US on July 8th (previously available only in Korea). Three fascinating editors will test the new device first.
Why is Dyson AirWrap Co-Anda twice as different from his predecessor?
The AirWrap Co-Anda 2x is the first iteration with visible changes in its base. It is now oval and ergonomic. It is also 24 grams lighter than the AirWrap ID (this means less arm training to style the strands).
Internally, the Co-Anda 2X is equipped with a more powerful motor, the Hyperdymium 2. The motor says Fred Howe, a Dyson engineer. (It’s the name “2x”.)
Howe added that AirWrap has been updated to improve overall performance. “When used with a new attachment, it dries just as quickly as a full-performance hair dryer, and has more powerful Co-Anda airflow for better hair wrapping and curl power, allowing you to create a straight style.”
That six attachments include the all-new Airsmooth 2x. My colleague, Associate Director Sarah Kinonen, is compared to an aircraft. It lightly tightens the hair to deliver tension and airflow to dry hair, making it straighter with less frizz. It also includes updates to existing attachments such as round brushes.
