Farewell to the Screech Owls

Farewell to the Screech Owls

June 4, 2025

By Memorial Day, our garden was flying the shed on the same timeline as hatching in the past few years. We got some glimpses of the trio on May 24th or 25th. Ah, it’s hard to say goodbye!

On that last day I also see one of the parents in the tree – here to the right. These owls are very small, only 6 inches tall, but their gaze can be intense.

Olett occasionally lie down on the branches and closes his eyes for a nap. Learning to skip and navigate through the tree canopy can be a tough task.

They are often camouflaged in live oaks. Here are four owls – do you see all of them? The two owlets are hidden half behind the leaves and branches on the left side. One Owlett looks at the camera. And the Mama Owl is placed next to the right.

Break up, Owlett! I hope they find a good hunt in the big world.
