In cold weather, July is the peak of garden season when flowers bloom, edible crops thriving, and pollinators busy. There are a few garden work to do this month.
For more information, see the Garden Task List for each month.

Dreams and Schemes
The shop is still in stock while stocking up seed starter mix and organic container mix. Old watering cans create wonderful containers and gardens. I’ll take lots of photos. It’s an easy way to understand what’s working and what’s refreshingly needed. If you want to preserve seeds, make the flowers a seed. You can also save tomato seeds.

Please observe and enjoy
You may not know it by the name of phenology, but you certainly know what it is. Phenology is the science of observing the first annual event in nature. When the flower buds open. When Peeper first peeps. When bees appear. When the relocation arrives. When the light bulb pops up. The list is endless.
Seasonal changes stimulate natural responses in the kingdom of plants and animals. It is interesting to note these events and compare them year by year.
Summer Biological Event
Here are some examples you may notice.
Many plants are the best plants (here in southwestern Ontario). Insect enthusiasts! The food chain is becoming wild. And replicas for all the wild things are on fire! The bird may be raising a second or third family of the season. If the rain is consistent, mosquitoes are fully developed. Bats banquet them in the evening. Are you watching a small blinking light at the night garden? It is fireflies mating.
