To celebrate my 170th birthday, I created the Grow Your Garden Grant. This is a £250 voucher supporting UK charities, community groups, schools or gardening clubs. This year’s recipient, Mindspace Stamford, used the grant to support their garden of happiness. This is a peaceful space where gardening helps to foster community connections and mental health.

To celebrate the 170th year, we provided the £250 Grow Garden Grant to support schools, charities, clubs or community groups that make a difference through gardening.
The grant was awarded to MindSpace Stamford, a Lincolnshire-based charity. In addition to creative workshops, peer support and happiness sessions, one of their important community spaces uses horticulture to connect people, support emotional wellbeing, and create opportunities for learning and connection.
From waste ground to welfare gardens
Since 2019, Mindspace has transformed Stanford’s previous abandoned plot into a thriving, happy garden. It is a peaceful and inclusive space where locals of all ages come together to raise food, build friendships and support emotional well-being.

Thanks to Grow Your Garden Grant, the charity was able to:
Add pollinator-friendly flowers and seasonal colors to diversify to support the hands-on growth experience of planting, helping locals grow their produce.

“The grant was amazing and we were able to buy many plants, seeds and vegetables that our community could benefit from,” says Garden Reed Kay Harrington.
“We have people of all ages enjoying the new growth space. The bulbs and seeds we plant will add more colour next year. This kind of support will help us maintain our garden.

Kris Collins of Thompson & Morgan Nursery Manager shared that Mindspace Stamford is a great example of how gardening and green spaces foster health, hope and connection.
“Gardening can be truly transformative. This project shows how impactful it can be when it’s in the hands of the community.”
With a calendar of free activities that are ongoing in the garden and beyond, Mindspace continues to grow not only plants but people as well. If you want to participate, head over to Mindspace Stamford to find out how to join, volunteer, or simply do what you can do.
