In honor of my mother’s 58th birthday yesterday, my brother, dad and I wanted to share some of her favorite recipes.
These meals, snacks and snacks remind us of the deliciousness my mom has provided to our family.

Cinnamon coffee cake
This cinnamon coffee cake was a treat I made frequently when I was in high school, and a treat I made many times when I returned from college. It was always incredibly tasty and a hit on the spot.
BBQ kale chips
These kale tips have always had an elusive quality. They didn’t last more than a few hours after being burned. During my past few years I have access to a wealth of kale while working on an organic vegetable farm. So my mom mixed the jars of seasonings and sent them by mail, allowing my dul with this delicious snack.
Butternut squash soup
I loved squash because I was a small thing, and this butternut squash soup brings me back to my childhood when my skin turned orange from eating orange food.
Chipotle orange chicken
When I was in middle school, this chipotle orange chicken was my favorite dinner. Something about the spicy sweet combo always encouraged my taste. Like many of my mother’s recipes, this emphasizes the glow of simplicity.
Cream cheese frosting
To this day, I still eat Mama’s cream cheese frosting straight out of the jar. It’s incredible with carrot cakes, taking your pancakes to a whole new level.
I feel a strong sense of sadness around my mother’s passing, and I am also very grateful. She created a nourishing life for our family and left us all so many wonderful and precious gems. If you feel you’re very leaning, feel free to share your favorite recipes in the comments below.
