healthy hair check-in

Happy new year! I hope you all had a wonderful vacation and were well-rested.

Start 2025 by checking your healthy hair. This post is a little late, but please bear with me as it was Christmas.

So what happened to my hair after 8 months of texture release and 12 months of a healthy hair routine? And what have I learned so far?

In August, I noticed a cut around the top of my head, but I didn’t think much of it because I thought it might be due to the braids I had just removed. But over the next month, I kept noticing more breakage, so I decided to visit a salon for professional help. After talking to my stylist about my routine, it became clear that I was using too many protein-rich products on my hair, and that I hadn’t given my hair much care that week + using amino acid-based TRs. Because over-consumption of protein could cause damage! I used Briogeo’s Desperate Repair frequently. I decided to switch up my routine and focus on hydration and conditioning instead of strengthening. I booked a follow-up app in December. It takes 12 weeks for changes to be seen.

When I went again in December, the breakage was bigger again and I’m happy to say there was no further breakage. My hair is also much better.

2024 was the year of rediscovering my hair with a focus on restoring its health. I’m happy that my hair is back! See my before and after photos. I started my journey to healthy hair in January 2024 with my first salon app in February 2024. Look how dry and flaky my hair was. This is after the deep moist treatment! Look at my hair in December 2024! My hair looks and feels so much better! My hair has improved a lot! My hair may not look like it’s growing much, but it actually did! I had 4 trims in 2024 to remove a large amount of dead hair.

We’ve reviewed a lot of products, so be sure to check them out. My routine is:

Washing – 7-10 days

Use a thermal cap every three weeks to maintain deep conditioning and focus on moisture.

Deep conditioning every 6 weeks with strengthening treatment or orapex

Clarify every 4 weeks

Blow dry with leave-in blow dry lotion and heat protector after each wash.

In 2025, I would like to focus on maintaining length. My challenge is to grow my hair to waist length. There is no deadline because I am not willing to sacrifice health over length. If I need to focus on something else, I will. Now that winter has arrived, I’ve also gone into protective styling mode – no braids allowed! From now until April, I plan to wash my hair every two weeks.

conclusion

I’m really happy with my hair growth. It’s much healthier than it was in 2023 and you can really start your hair growth journey. I plan on continuing to take care of my hair by practicing the good habits I developed last year. Going to the salon once a quarter was also very effective. I will continue this and encourage all natural girls to start going to the salon if they haven’t already.

In 2024, I learned to braid braids as a protective style. This isn’t just about friends. I don’t mind having human hair, so I’m thinking of going without it this year. Also, can I just say how proud I am of myself for growing my hair out for most of the last year? I experimented a lot with half ups and downs thanks to the Royale ponytail (be sure to check it out) Here are some of my favorite styles: PS Cornrow ponytails are actually drawstring ponytails! I don’t even remember the last time I attended a wedding with my hair done. 2 of course!

I’ve been blow-drying my hair for a year now and I haven’t experienced any heat damage, my hair has grown longer and feels much better when I dry it. No more air drying. I let my hair air dry (twisted) and did a “backslide” after washing it once in the fall, but I never did it again. The difference was huge. Posts on my blow dry routine and products coming soon.

Anyway, I don’t want to bore you with a super long post. Check out my previous posts for more details and full reviews of the products I loved last year. I’ll continue to find better hair products, so I’ll be posting more reviews soon!

Now until 2025! May you be filled with grace, blessings, and good hair and skin.
