The worst thing that can happen with a pressed powder is obviously dropping it and grinding it into millions of small pieces. Just thinking about it makes me feel the punch of my finely crushed intestines. But the second worst thing that can happen with a pressed powder must be when you get a funky, cinematic spot that completely changes its texture and makes it nearly impossible to pick up the product with a brush or puff. Even if you think you’re working through it and might whip it out, it will persist stubbornly and create a literal force field that compromises the performance of the product and what you look like.
Thankfully, makeup artist and all-around hilarious Genevieve Turley recently shared a fantastic, extremely easy way to solve this powder problem.
“Did you get a power make-up product that looks like this? Like this movie, like this movie, it’s not working now. They’re not brushing your skin. You’re not getting a color pickup, and it’s very annoying,” says Tarly on both Instagram and Tiktok videos, using that reportedly thin scene and powder bronzer as an example. “The film is often caused by going back to our faces and going back to our products – our products, our faces, our faces, our products, our faces, our products, our buildup of oils that can withstand our skin and makeup.
She continues to grab a clean spoolies (wouldn’t the spoolies always save the day?). “What you’re trying to do is gently do a small circular movement to remove that movie. We should be careful now. I don’t want to get it on the carpet now?” she lightly rubs the surface. She then shows how well her fingers can pick up the bronzer. “And you’re getting it off, so now I have… lots of products.
