Tired of hearing about protein? Honestly, I am too.
Between the protein fortification talk (protein water!) and the obsessive gram count talk, the whole conversation was getting a little tired.
Here’s what I know as a registered dietitian: Protein is not the be-all and end-all of nutrients. And you don’t have to work part-time to achieve a certain number of grams every day. Most people consume more than enough protein.
And yet.
After I started adding more protein to my breakfast, I noticed a difference. You will feel fuller for a longer time. My blood sugar levels don’t plummet late in the morning. And, as someone who is firmly in the “middle-aged” category, I know that protein helps maintain the muscle mass we tend to lose with age.
I was rotating protein waffles and no-bake cookie overnight oats, two breakfasts that gave me more protein without making a big deal. To add variety, I swapped out my favorite winter oatmeal combination for overnight oats and added a scoop of my favorite protein powder for an extra boost.
The result is bright, creamy, slightly tart, and incredibly satisfying.
If you love meal prepping like I do, you can make several jars to last several days.
