The most prominent form of entertainment and socialization today is screen time. Whether you watch a show or scroll through social media, reliance on screens is both a blessing and a curse. While modern technology has advantages that have not been spoken about, there is no denying that its easy-to-access nature and portability are somewhat addictive. It is important to know if your screen time is always reaching active times.

Luckily there is a solution to this problem. Even equipment such as walking pads and routine switch-ups can offer excellent health benefits, and the screen itself can even turn into a tool that helps relieve excessive mentality during screen time.

Rethink the screen

Part of the reason people abandon activities when screens are involved is because some form of screen promotes a lack of movement. TV is a big, difficult to move, often used to watch movies and TV shows, which encourages long sittings when observing stories. Even mobile phones that have easy access to short form content offer a small boost of serotonin that keeps us still.

But things don’t have to be that way.

If you want to watch TV, go ahead! There’s a lot of great media out there. And you can keep it active while watching it. Set an alarm for the mid-point of the movie, get up, do some stretches or light exercises, and continue the movie. Or experience yoga exercises and weight while watching. You can also use a treadmill, walking pad, or other stationary exercise gear when you’re watching a movie or doing your favorite show.

You can also use screen time to bring vibrancy and incentive to boring, boring or difficult tasks. You can use your phone to play your favorite music and podcasts, do other tasks, or even give a little motivational boost, or (Mary Poppins Style) to turn boring tasks into activities. Try performing a specific task within the duration of the song or setting the task to its rhythm.

Incorporating movement into digital work

People believe that working means we have to sit still at our desks and grind them down until we’re done. We like to believe in different ways. Work is beneficial, but there is no rule anywhere that you have to be sedentary, even if you are working at a desk.

Furniture such as standing desks and adjustable workstations are great to promote movement and activity while working, and sometimes after sitting for a while, standing for a while will help your body feel natural again, revitalizing your mind and keeping your work going. Of course, the desk doesn’t just stand magically often, but setting reminders every 30 minutes to get up and walk around the office makes my body very grateful.

Of course, keeping it active during screen time doesn’t mean ignoring the screen completely. As mentioned earlier, you can exercise when watching or during housework. However, the screen is also the cornerstone of active time.

Using TV for training is very common. Early morning TV shows included cardio shows, so people are doing it. Currently, YouTube and other streaming services offer a wealth of freely accessible training guides that people of all body types can use to stay active. Just like everything, moderation is key. The same applies to sedentary/active times. The screen not only promotes tranquility, but also promotes movement and energy! Ultimately, it’s up to you to be involved.
