How to defeat the winter blues

How to defeat the winter blues

During the winter months, mentally it can be difficult to overcome. Putting yourself in summer mode will improve your mood. Below are my tips on how to defeat winter blues, including light therapy and tropical thinking.

Resignation planners always ask, “What is your dream of resignation?”

Some people say they play golf every day, travel to the corners of the world, jump into hobbies like painting (mom!), or enjoy the comfort of their home with stress-free books and tea from work. It might be.

In my ideal life, I spend the winter somewhere warm and sunny.

My bones hurt during this time of year due to the warmth of the sun. Short days, lack of sunlight, too many illnesses. I think exercising can be very useful (such as winter walks and winter sports), but overall this season is too long. (And I know that some of you have lived in cold places much longer and much longer – I don’t know how to do it!!)

I once travelled to St. Lucia and Key during the cold season. There’s nothing that makes you feel literally like the sun. But in a year when you can’t travel for whatever reason, how do you convey that warm sunlight to your face?

Seasonal affective disorder

I think I tend to be towards seasonal depression. Seasonal affective disorder, or sadness, is also known as winter depression. Sad people can have symptoms that mimic depression. Doctors are not sure exactly why some people experience grief, but they assume that the lack of sunlight in autumn and winter affects the body’s circadian rhythm. Serotonin (happy hormone) and melatonin (sleep hormone) are often out of balance. (I also started taking this CBD and seeing if it would help my mood!)

Sad symptoms

A lack of energy to withdraw from a social situation changes the changes in sleep schedules. This can mean sleep more or less than normal.

The best treatment for SAD is phototherapy

People find 30 minutes of light therapy to really improve their mood. This may mean going outside in the sunlight, but if the sun is hidden behind the clouds, a light treatment lamp can help. There are a lot of different things on the market and they are not very expensive. Spend time in bright light, close your eyes and imagine a real warm sun. Does anyone have it?

In addition to mild treatments, add a winter summer routine to put your mind in the summer vibe

So I thought if I couldn’t go to the Caribbean, I’d take the Caribbean to me!

How to defeat the winter blues

Wear beach music

Beach Boys. reggae. Kenny Chesney.

Make a tropical drink

Adopt pineapple with Julie’s pineapple mint sangria, this Paloma with grapefruit, or this summer rose cocktail that looks like my alley! Or stock up on Coconut Lacroix!

Follow our Resort Instagram account

Like this. Take me virtually to the Maldives!

It warms your body

If there’s a safe way to go, head to the sauna (or slip into the sauna blanket), an indoor pool, a hot tub, or simply a hot bubble bath! It makes your body feel like summer and sweat. I live in a sauna this winter.

Buy new swimsuits, summer clothes, and patio furniture

They may be for sale! Check out Amazon Black Bathing Suit posts, casual summer travel clothes and pouch furniture. Think about stepping out your pool bag inventory!

Watch Moana with your kids

Or your favorite beach movie. Or Survivor!

Eat all the tropical fruits

Bonus: In the season! Grapefruit, mango, pineapple. Frozen or order a tropical smoothie from the daily harvest (there are new protein smoothies). Make coconut sorbet, this tropical smoothie bowl, a mango pineapple smoothie, or this tropical bean salad.

I’m having a summer dinner

Like a burger or skewer served with pineapple or cold peanut noodles or summer pasta salad. Bring the healthy eating atmosphere of that summer. Enjoying frozen fresh summer fruits is another way to bring summer flavors to your winter plate (or glass).

Read the Good Island novel

I love everything about Elin Hilderbrand. It’s no surprise that I’ve never read her winter books. Only Nantucket’s summer books! However, the St. John Winter series is completely tropical. I loved the Paradise trilogy!

Wear tropical and summer scents

Dime Beauty has a couple that smells like summer. Seven Summer and Malibu Nights (use the code Katheats for discounts). Even a bouquet of fresh flowers can help brighten up the living space. Or perhaps bring your palm into your living room!

Plan your summer vacation – use your travel points!

If you’re trying everything and don’t seem to be able to beat the winter blues, book a summer trip. What is the best way to do that? Use travel rewards from credit card points (my favorite travel method!). There is an entire blog post about how to travel with credit card points and credit card strategies to earn travel rewards. There is also a blog post comparing Capital One vs. Chase credit cards (spoiler: both!).
