For many of us, eating popsicles is central to childhood memories of hot summers. And I’m sure that’s true for my children as well.

There’s nothing wrong with store-bought popsicles, but when you make your own popsicles, you have control over what goes into them, including how much sugar, if any.

I’ll come up with a month’s worth of dinners for you.

Stay on top of my 4-week meal plan, including recipes for every meal, shopping list, and tips on likes and dislikes.

These healthy homemade popsicles are made with whole fruit and a little honey (or not!) and are perfect for:

Place fresh fruit (or thawed frozen fruit) in a blender and puree until smooth. If the fruit mixture is too thick and doesn’t mix well, add a little water, coconut water, or 100% fruit juice, such as apple juice.

You can strain out the seeds and pulp after blending, but I like to leave them all in.

This recipe calls for 3 cups of fruit and makes about 1 1/2 cups of fruit puree.

This amount filled a little more than three of these large popsicle pouches, but it would obviously work even better if you used the smaller molds.

What types of fruits are most effective?

Made with fresh strawberries, blueberries, watermelon, and pineapple. I also thawed some fresh peaches in the microwave and then blended them.

Taste and add honey if needed.

How much honey should I use?

Since each fruit is different, I suggested blending the fruits and tasting them before adding the honey. Some fruit mixtures may not require as much honey as others. Or feel free to skip it entirely.

You can also cover small paper cups with plastic wrap, stick popsicle sticks in them, place the cups on a baking sheet, and freeze them.
