The ombré effect has become a staple of nail design for one reason. Regardless of the color you choose, the ombré effect creates a beautiful, diffused look that’s just as great in your designs as when used alone. Plus, it’s adaptable and goes well with both minimalist and maximalist manicures. Think soft ballet colors for bubble bath nails and metallic shades for ombre chrome designs. There are several different techniques to create the look, but modern eyeshadow nails are one of the easiest. “Using eyeshadow in nail designs has become a popular nail art trend, mainly because of its simplicity,” says Shiranush Ambartumian, a professional manicurist in Miami. The idea is simple, but before you start getting creative with your favorite palette, it’s good to know the basics of using eyeshadow as nail art. Below, two nail experts break down the trends and share tips for achieving the right look.

What is eyeshadow nails?

While some nail trends refer to design or technique, eyeshadow nails refer to both. According to Ambertsumian, eyeshadow nails are a nail art technique that uses eyeshadow pigments to create designs. Just like the actual nail polish, the eyeshadow palette also comes in a range of attractive shades. The eyeshadow nail trend is more about creating a seamless gradient than just adding color to your nails. “Eyeshadow glides smoothly onto the nail plate, allowing you to achieve intricate ombré designs,” says Ambertsmian. She explains that this method allows for a variety of combinations and is quick and easy to create ombré effects.

How do you do eyeshadow nails?

First, Anastasia Julia, owner of NashlyNails Studio, suggests dipping the applicator in your favorite eyeshadow and dabbing the product onto your nails. Repeat this technique with different colors and gently blend the shades to get an ombre look. “You can cover the entire nail or apply multiple colors to the entire nail before finishing with a top coat,” says Julia.

The key to doing eyeshadow nails correctly is using the right type of product. “Once the design is complete, it must be sealed with a top coat, otherwise the effect will quickly fade during wear,” says Ambertsmian. She adds that not all eyeshadows are suitable for nails, as some contain silicates and other water-repellent ingredients that don’t work well with top coat polishes. Ta. “It’s best to choose dry eyeshadow or buy pressed pigments,” she says.
