Some people have interesting priorities:
If squirrels are destroying the food they are growing for your family, remove them from your property.
I like squirrels – in the park. And in the wild. But not in my corn.

As for snakes, I only kill moccasins. I have spoken in favour of snakes many times. “A Terrifying World” is a drive-by. Otherwise he would know I would kill very little. In my garden I have wasps, spiders, lizards, snakes, turtles, birds and occasional bunnies.
Still, I have to protect our food supply.
My family is a priority. Rodents aren’t.
I don’t grow corn to feed wildlife. I’m growing it because grocery bills are ridiculous and don’t trust the GMO/chemical food system.
People kill too many useful creatures around here. Killing a snake is like breeding hundreds of mice.
However, if there are not enough predators, it must be one.
Because you don’t have squirrel intrusions. There is a lack of leads.
