Homemade Electrolytes and Their Benefits
Electrolytes are essential for maintaining proper hydration, especially for those on low-carb or ketogenic diets, athletes, and anyone who exercises regularly.
Commercially available electrolyte solutions are readily available, but making your own electrolyte drink is cost-effective and can be customized to your specific needs.
The market is flooded with commercial electrolyte drinks: electrolyte water, sports drinks, coconut water with lemon or lime juice, Himalayan salt, etc. But they’re all very expensive, and honestly, there’s no good reason for it. Many of them don’t contain any expensive ingredients at all.
I wanted to create a recipe for an electrolyte drink that was cheap (stupidly cheap to make) and easy to make.
The ingredients should be accessible and easily available to everyone, worldwide, and this recipe is gluten-free, sugar-free (no natural sugars like honey, fruit, or maple syrup) and can be enjoyed during intermittent fasting.
Since launching Keto Mojo in 2021, our electrolyte recipes have been immensely popular. Our active Facebook community has praised them for a significant increase in energy, less brain fog, and longer fasting periods. If you’ve tried them and loved them, leave a comment below and let others know about the benefits you’ve experienced since switching to our DIY electrolytes.
What are the benefits of drinking natural electrolytes?
Consuming electrolyte drinks is essential for staying hydrated and maintaining overall health, especially during strenuous exercise, hot weather, illness, and certain situations such as low-carb or keto diets. There are several reasons why consuming electrolyte drinks is beneficial:
Hydration: Electrolyte drinks help replenish fluids and electrolytes lost during exercise or through sweating in hot weather. Electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and magnesium are essential to maintain the body’s fluid balance. Electrolyte Balance: Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals that play a vital role in a variety of bodily functions, including nerve transmission, muscle contraction, and maintaining pH balance. Drinking electrolyte drinks can improve electrolyte imbalances and prevent dehydration, muscle cramps, and restless leg syndrome. Energy Levels: Proper hydration and electrolyte balance are essential to maintain energy levels and prevent fatigue, especially during prolonged physical activity or intense exercise. Preventing Heat Stroke: In hot weather or high-intensity exercise, excessive sweating can cause electrolyte imbalances and dehydration, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Electrolyte drinks can help prevent these heat strokes by replacing lost fluids and minerals. Supports low-carb and keto diets: Low-carb and keto diets can lead to increased fluid loss and electrolyte excretion, especially during the early stages of adaptation (keto flu). Electrolyte drinks can help reduce symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, and muscle cramps by replenishing electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Improves athletic performance: Adequate hydration and electrolyte balance are essential to optimize athletic performance. Electrolyte drinks can help athletes maintain hydration levels, delay fatigue, and maintain endurance during training and competition. Faster recovery: Drinking an electrolyte drink after exercise or illness can help with faster recovery by replenishing lost fluid and electrolytes, reducing muscle soreness, and supporting the body’s recovery process.

The ingredients for homemade electrolytes are easily available at your local supermarket. However, the ingredients used are not published online. It is easy to make a homemade electrolyte drink as all the ingredients are available at the supermarket. I buy all the ingredients in bulk to reduce costs. If you want to buy the ingredients in bags of 1 kg or more, try Purewellness.
Simply mix with water or soda, or you can add electrolyte powder to gummies or smoothies if you prefer.
In chats with customers around the world, no one had any difficulty making a purchase.
The nutritional value of the standard powdered electrolyte mix is as follows: No additional supplements are added. The mix does not contain sweeteners of any kind. Electrolytes can be taken throughout the day and during intermittent fasting periods.

How to use electrolyte powder
I mix it with soda water. I use a 64oz insulated Yeti Rambler and fill it with about 2 liters of soda water, ice, and 3 tsp (or 1 tbsp) of electrolytes. I might drink 1-2 cups a day. The amount varies from person to person. If you’re always on the go or very active, you’ll probably drink more than I do. The standard recipe serves 6 people and is 1 tsp per cup of liquid. I make a big batch because it’s super convenient when you have 2 people drinking all the time.
Flavored Electrolytes
If you prefer it uncarbonated, mix it with water and then dilute it with carbonated water.
If desired, add more sodium for saltiness or a sweetener such as Vital Zing Drops to enhance flavor.
Electrolytes can be flavored with extracts, spices, unsweetened cordials (added to water), flavored magnesium powder, flavored protein water, or flavored collagen — the options are endless. I prefer unflavored, but simply add citrus flavored magnesium.

Note: When choosing flavorings to add to your electrolyte mix or glass of electrolytes, be sure to check the nutritional label of what you are adding. Many flavorings, especially flavored collagen and protein powders, are loaded with calories and carbohydrates that can disrupt your fast and autophagy, taking you out of the fat burning zone during your fasting period.

Cost-effective: Homemade electrolytes are much more affordable than commercial electrolytes, saving you money in the long run. How to Store Homemade Electrolytes
Store in an airtight container. I make about 1 kilogram portions and store them in a plastic container with a screw top. Add a small packet (or 2) of silica gel to the container.

Always consult with a medical professional before making any major changes to your diet or supplementation habits.
