I can turn anything into an opportunity to strive for excellence. “Work hard, play hard” is an unconscious desire that I recently discovered around my mind. This summer we did a lot of modest things, but nothing big. When September arrives, I feel regret. And I think it’s about “working hard and playing hard.” It makes me see the rest and see it as another thing I have to strive to get bigger. For example, do I not only put pressure on me to do great things at work, but do I have to do big things with my rest now? Sigh.
Instead of looking at rest as a goal, if it’s more similar… keep the house straight. We all know that if we think about keeping our homes straight and keeping them straight, we will drive ourselves crazy. Instead, we learn to straighten the house with a small bit and fully know that in a few hours the same thing will be needed again.
On her Ted Talk on Rest, Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith divides the rest into six small areas. For me, this makes it easier to push the idea of rest as a goal. To keep the house straight, you can scan which areas need to be rested a little. Do you continue to think about the mistakes you made yesterday? You may need a little emotional rest. Have you ever had any motivation this morning? You may need a little mental rest. Do you have a headache from eye pressure this afternoon? There may be some sensory rest in place.
Of course, we all had our houses straightened. Sometimes it takes good time to catch up, and sometimes it takes hours to reset. Rest is the same. Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith has some deeper questions to help us when we need a bigger REST reset.
But this happens in real life! We cannot descend on ourselves and return to the idea of a “straight home.” Restart reset, readjustment, and Little Bit Engine correction again.
Rest is not a result of gold metal. Reset, readjust and restart again with a small bit.
Until next time,
