Let me introduce you to my recent life!
The soulless swing lady is back!
Have you ever wondered why October is October and not the 8th? This is literally what I came up with recently when I was brainstorming the title for this post. I wonder if it was 8 in the old calendar?
*Google this*
Ok, I was right! According to Google, it was 8 days in the old calendar.
October is not the eighth month because the original Roman calendar had a 10-month year starting in March, making October the eighth month. When the calendar was reformed to include January and February, these two new months were added at the beginning of the year, and subsequent months were moved, resulting in October becoming the tenth month while keeping the numerical name.
I finished “Remarkably Bright Creatures” and really liked it, so I’m also interested in “Octo-“. It was really fun to get inside the octopus’ head. I feel like this book needs a sequel!
Speaking of notable creatures, here are the latest advances in Halloween costumes. He’s on drywall stilts and his crutches are covered in foam. Next, apply spray paint and the “creepy cloth” on top. And his mask too!
And slimy creatures…Mazen and Thomas’ latest fishing trip! He’s a big boy!
Birch is obsessed with Halloween decorations and goes for walks every night to check for new additions.
Gus appreciates the extra walk!
We are also very proud that B won the Confidence Award at school. He has come a long way since he was very shy when he was 2 or 3 years old. <3
survivor dinner
Ellen and I watch Survivor every week (and Hilary when she can join in too!) Two weeks ago, I pulled in some salmon, potatoes, and asparagus to make Blue Apron’s Cajun Brown Sugar Salmon recipe that I had previously made. Very good!
rooftop close-up
The following week, influencer Ellen invited me to attend an event on the rooftop of the Doyle Hotel.
The roof was taken over by a brand called Up On The Roof and was as cheerful as ever. We had so much fun enjoying batch cocktails and eating amazing deviled eggs!
clean juice
Another spot I discovered in town is Clean Juice. Love the healthy lunch options (it’s near Costco, on the strip in front of it).
Organic toast, sandwiches, and smoothies too!

And in not-so-healthy news, Bang’s Afterglow (lemongrass + bourbon) is still one of the best cocktails in town.
