Reflection on slowing, self-love, inner wisdom

Reflection on slowing, self-love, inner wisdom

In the midst of busy schedules, constant notifications, and never-ending demands in life, it’s easy to slow down and simply forget about the power that exists. That’s why I share five Mindful Muses. Insights, practices and resources help me live more mindful.

This is what happened to my heart and mind this week:

What I’m practicing: The Art of Slowdown

There is a way in life to stack everything at once. Recently I have been reminding myself to pause and breathe before rushing to the next task. Here are some practices that will help you reconnect with existence.

Pause and take 3 mindful breaths. You feel safe inside the body and you will feel at ease. It releases the urge to enter the “next.” Soften your chin, drop your shoulders, and melt away tension.

These simple mindfulness practices help reset my nervous system and bring me back to the centre.

What I reflect: the 90-second rule

Happiness researcher Mo Gawdat shares fascinating insights from neuroscientist Jill Bolte Taylor. It only takes 90 seconds for stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline to travel through the body.

catch? Every time you regenerate stressful thoughts in your mind, you resume the cycle. After the first 90 seconds, you actually have a choice. Do you update the stress or allow yourself to let go?

This is a very powerful reminder. We can stress our thoughts, or we will free us from them.

What I share: Self-love is not selfish

One of the best podcasts I’ve listened to this week was “Nakakoro is not selfish. The true inner work of a mindful leader.”

Here are some important points:

Narcissism is not about correcting yourself – it is about getting along with yourself. There is also a sense of genuine embarrassment. For mentors, caregivers and teachers, narcissism is not an option. That’s not essential.

As the host beautifully said, “You don’t have to be someone else worthy of love. You need to go home to yourself.”

What I ordered: Your Body’s Secret Language

I’m diving into Inna Segal’s bestselling book, The Secret Language of Your Body: The Essential Guide to Health and Wellness. Over 1,500 5-star reviews on Amazon have become a go-to resource for exploring how unresolved emotions can manifest in your body.

Some themes that I’m interested in:

The emotional roots of chronic diseases like migraines and fatigue are how to listen to your body without fear of continuing to be “stuck” on the healing journey of mind-body connections between emotions and physical health

Have you read it? I want to hear what you think.

My favourite story: Two wolves

The old Cherokee story reminds us of the timeless battle within:

“There’s a fight going on inside me,” my grandfather told his grandson. “It’s a battle between two wolves. One is evil. What’s evil is a person, regret, greed, false pride. The other is good.

The grandson asked, “Which wolf will win?”

My grandfather smiled, “What you feed.”

This story feels particularly relevant today as it chooses a place to pay attention to fear, or love.

Final Reflection

Mindfulness is not about perfection, it is about being. Whether it is a three-mindful breath, a reflection of self-love and timeless wisdom, every small step brings us closer to living with more peace and consciousness.
