Safely boost your metabolism

Drinking two glasses of water causes a surge of the adrenal hormone noradrenaline into your bloodstream. This is similar to the reaction you would have if you smoked a few cigarettes or drank a few cups of coffee.

Drinking just 2 glasses of water increases norepinephrine by 60% within minutes, as shown in the graph below and at 0:13 in my video “What is the safest metabolic booster?” If you consider doing so, you may benefit from weight loss. Can noradrenaline-releasing drugs like ephedra be used without risk? You won’t know until you test it. The results, published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society, were described as “unparalleled and impressive.” Researchers found that drinking two glasses of water increased metabolic rate by 30 percent in men and women. The increase began within 10 minutes and reached its maximum value within 1 hour. In the 90 minutes after drinking a glass of water, study participants burned about 25 more calories (100 kJ). If you do this four times throughout the day, you’ll eliminate an additional 100 calories (400 kJ). That’s more than if you took ephedra. Rather than taking reduced doses of the banned drug ephedrine (the active ingredient in ephedra) three times a day, you’ll be cutting calories while drinking water. And we’re talking about plain, cheap, safe, legal tap water.

Using the 10 calorie rule we discussed earlier, drinking that much water can cause you to lose 10 pounds over time unless you compensate in some way by eating more or exercising less. There is a gender. One research team concluded: “Essentially, drinking water is negative in calories.

Similar effects were seen in overweight and obese children. Drinking about 2 cups of water increased metabolic rate by 25 percent within 24 minutes, which lasted at least 66 minutes until the experiment ended. This means you only need to consume the recommended daily intake of water. Children ages 4 to 8 should consume approximately 7 cups (1.7 L) per day, children ages 9 to 13 should consume approximately 7 cups (2.1 L), girls 8 cups (2.1 L), and girls 10 cups. (2.4 L). L) For boys, it can help more than just hydration, as shown below and at 1:45 in my video.

However, not all research teams were able to reproduce these findings. For example, one team found an increase of only about 10 to 20 percent, another found an increase of only 5 percent, and still another found virtually no increase at all. But what we are concerned about is weight loss. The proof is in the pudding. Want to test the waters?

Some researchers have suggested that “increasing metabolic rate by drinking water may be systematically applied to prevent weight gain…” We discuss safe, simple, and side-effect-free solutions. Free in every sense of the word. Pharmaceutical companies can spend billions of dollars to bring new drugs to market. Sure, you might at least save a little money to test something that can’t possibly cause any harm. But that’s the problem. Drinking water is an “inexpensive intervention.”

For example, people who drink 4 cups (1 L) or more of water a day tend to lose more weight, independent of confounding factors such as drinking less soda or doing more exercise. There are observational studies that suggest that it can be seen. What happens when you put it to the test?

In 2013, “The Effects of ‘Water-Induced Thermogenesis’ on Body Weight, BMI, and Body Composition in Overweight Subjects” was published. Fifty “overweight girls” (actually women between the ages of 18 and 23) were “instructed to drink 500ml (2 cups) of water three times a day, 30 minutes before breakfast, lunch, and dinner. , it’s over.” Consume more than your daily water intake without changing your diet or physical activity. result? They lost an average of 3 pounds (1.4 kg) in 8 weeks. What happened to the people in the control group? There was no control group, but this is a fatal flaw in “Hawthorne Effect” weight loss studies, where people are being watched and weighed. Just knowing that can have a subtle influence on your own behavior. Of course, we are only talking about drinking water. There’s no downside, so why not give it a try? I think I’d have more confidence if there were some randomized controlled trials to really test it. Thankfully, there is!

I hate when titles ruin the suspense. “Water intake increases weight loss during low-calorie diets in middle-aged and elderly people.” As shown below and at 4:08 in my video, overweight and obese men and women Those randomized to drink 2 cups of water before each meal lost nearly 5 pounds more body fat than the control group over 12 weeks. Both groups were given the same calorie-restricted diet, but those who added water lost weight 44% faster.

A similar randomized controlled trial found that about 1 in 4 people in the water group lost 5 percent or more of their body weight, compared to only 1 in 20 in the control group. The average weight loss difference was only about 3 pounds (1.3 kg), but those who claimed to have actually followed the three-times-a-day instructions lost about 8 pounds (4.3 kg) compared to those who just drank. kg) I lost a lot of weight. Add water no more than once a day. This is comparable to commercial weight loss programs such as Weight Watchers, where participants simply drink more water.

The video I mentioned is New calories per pound rule for weight loss.
