Summer outdoor patio decoration

Summer outdoor patio decoration

Will you climb an outdoor space this summer? Whether it’s a happy hour on the porch, a picnic with your people, a new outdoor patio decoration in the summer will add something fun to the season!

Pouch + patio season is authentic

Every summer I can’t wait to open my windows and start living outside. When we built the Shiplap Screen In Pouch a few years ago, it really changed our indoor and outdoor life in a warm month. We eat dinner outside almost every night (except for these 100 degrees, 100% humidity days!).

We have spent hours enjoying the outdoor space for happy hours, family dinners, afternoon reads (and naps), and more.

There is a trampoline in the garden, so I would like to replace the rotten furniture there to make it more livable (and actually want to go to the garden!). Perhaps an Adirondack chair pair? Our front pouch is perfect for watching kids play front. We are waiting for our guests to arrive.

Our screen in pouch sofa is the evil man of all weather in honey ceramic barn palmetto, and the coffee table is this West Elm coffee table. Although not made outdoors, this space is working for now as it does not cause heavy rain (but the sun is fading).

Every summer patio needs comfortable seating!

I’ve never been excited by the wood colours of the rocking chairs I bought back in 2021, but they’ve faded a bit to better match the tones of my coffee table. They are very comfortable and I still love the design!

More Pouch Inspo for Your Outdoor Decoration Ideas

This post links everything about the pouch, but we’ve also put together other practical outdoor patio decorations for the summer.

Of course, most of them are neutral (there are no bright red garden gnomes on this list), but it’s even easier to add your talent with patterns and pops of colors. Check out my friend Ellen’s colorful screen pouches for decorative inspiration and summer decoration ideas!

How to decorate your patio in the summer

1. Add a layer of light

Use string lights, solar lanterns, or LED candles to create a warm glow on summer nights. The lighting adds a touch of ambience and makes the space work after sunset. I love how our porch lights get dark.

2. Bring a pop of colour

If calm neutral isn’t your style, try replacing cushions, rugs and tableware for vibrant summer colors like coral, turquoise, citrus yellow and plant greenery.

3. Incorporate natural elements

Decorate with potted plants, hanging baskets, and even small herb gardens. Breaking your outdoor oasis to life by choosing low-maintenance summer flowers, such as geraniums, lavenders or succulents. Ultimate practical decoration: Small herb planter!

4. Create a comfortable zone

Define your seating or lounge area with an outdoor rug, a small side table, or a hammock chair. Layer your pillows and throws to add comfort and style to your outdoor living space. I love having both a dining area and a seating area – a sofa for nap and conversation chairs.

5. Add a personal touch

Use outdoor art like decorative trays, candles, seasonal centerpieces, or garden statues to make your space feel like an extension of your home.

Carlisle Acacia Wood Picnic Dining Set – I love the look of this set on a casual bench!

Bright Brown Eucalyptus Outdoor Sofa – This gorgeous outdoor sofa is on mega sale!

Round All Weather Wicker Chairs – Stackable and easy to move, these patio chairs are weather resistant and look great throughout the season.

Round Dining Table – I like the simplicity of this light wooden dining table. And you can’t beat the price!

Ceramic Barn Tulum Bar Cart – This metal bar cart in Ceramic Barn is refined of all kinds. If that’s not on your budget, I really like this neutral wood bar cart via Amazon for just a fraction of the cost.

Decoration

Indoor/Outdoor String Lights – A set of lights can enhance the atmosphere of any outdoor space.

Citronella Candles – The only annoying thing about outdoor patio/porch hangs is a bug, right? This citronella candle has a pineapple scent – ah!

Black Lanterns – If you’re ignorant of where to start with outdoor decorations (I hope this post is helpful), just add a few lanterns and the atmosphere will start to be created.

Planters – Bring your outdoor arrangements to a little life using neutral themes through the flowers and greenery of some of these concrete planters.

Picnic Blanket – I love the light neutral pattern. Perfect for park picnics, evening concerts, or throwing the grass in front.

Performance Rugs – If you’re looking for a beautiful indoor/outdoor rug, Serena & Lily’s is stunning and often 20% off.

Offset Hanging Market Patio Umbrella – If outdoor umbrellas have seen many sunny summers, it may be time to switch faded umbrellas for something hard and new. I wish we had something huge that was still on the patio!

Outdoor fun

Solo Stove – We are huge fans of Solo Stove! It can be easily moved around the garden, creating the perfect low-smoked atmosphere. (IMO is not completely smokeless, so I say low smoke!)

Picnic Cheese Board – A cheese board to go? Yes, please! Create outdoor charcoal grill boards and surprise your friends.

Outdoor movie screens – Certainly you can hang the sheets, but this set probably won’t fall off.

Croquet set – we had it when I was little and my sister and I had so much fun playing in the garden!

Yeti Cooler Bag – Thomas got this for a year for my birthday. It was a great bag for picnics, parties and beaches. I’m a huge fan of soft cooler bags.

Cleaning patio furniture

I want to have a nice clean pouch after a long winter. If pollen season seems to have collapsed, here are some of the steps you take each spring:

Remove all cushions and machine wash them (not fun, but there is such a difference, but not such a difference!) Spray all the furniture. Spray all furniture, including the table. Spray the table from the floor to freshen the plants/planter (or go outside if you’re inside for winter).
