Pop Culture PSA: There’s less than a week left until the second season of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This. To celebrate the highly-anticipated premiere, Kristen Bell, Justin Lupe, Jackie Thone, and Season 2 guest star Leighton Meester walked the red carpet oozing California cool last night. And we know the key details behind the stunning skin and makeup products each actress wore on their big night.
Kristen Bell’s “super simple but classy” beauty
Kristen Bell (our beloved Joan) stunned in an asymmetrical spicy red wrap dress, which Look makeup artist Simone Almequias-Seigl balanced out with a “fresh dewy face and soft smoky eyes.” Bell’s Glam begins with a five-step skin routine, courtesy of NassifMD, a brand founded by a plastic surgeon. “This skincare line is definitely a new addition to my favorites,” says Almequias-Siegle. “I love prepping my skin and believe that perfect makeup starts with perfect skin.” I started by gently exfoliating and smoothing the texture with a detox pad ($35). Next, I applied the 3HA Hydrating Facial Mist ($51), Hydroscreen Serum ($55), and Soft Focus Hydrating Day Cream ($55) before makeup to create a deeply hydrated, glowing base.
Almekias-Siegl then used a wide range of Versed products to achieve a “super simple but classy” makeup look. Versed is a brand known for clean, solution-focused skincare and makeup, all retailing for less than $25.
For Belle’s eyes, Almekias-Seigl mixed two shades of Sheer Stay Liquid Eyeshadow ($15) (Mystic and Poetic) into the “crease and edge” to create a soft smoke. Next, she added Baroque’s High Points Illuminating Stick ($15) “as a little highlight under the brow and in the center of the eyelid.” For the eyebrows, “I applied Blonde (Easy Brow) Tinted Brow Gel ($14) with a brush to highlight and set them in place,” Almequias-Siegle says. To complete her eye makeup, Almequias-Ziegle applied “several coats” of Day Lash ($15) in black. “This mascara doesn’t clump!” she exclaims.
To even out Belle’s complexion, Almequias-Siegl applied Smooth Skin Face Primer ($17) only to Belle’s T-zone. (“I love that it makes her skin look like bare skin, not a matte look,” she says.) Next up is Skin Solutions Multi Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 ($20). This is a rosacea-friendly skin tint that has sold out three times since its release. Almequias-Siegle calls it “lightweight,” “creamy” and “buildable.” “The skin tint has the perfect texture to make your skin look fresh and even. It stays on all day. I really like it. It also has added SPF.” To further enhance Belle’s glow, Almekias-Siegl added a drop of Mood Lighting Glow Drops in Sheer Golden ($19), followed by Skin Solution Serum Concealer ($15) dollar) was added “to remove dark circles under the eyes and cover redness around the nose and chin.”
To complete her look with warmth and color, Belle wore August’s Warm Dimension Bronzer Stick ($15) with the shade Swipe Blush Stick ($15) in Pinch on her cheeks and Bloom on her lips.
Justin Lupe’s “Jane Birkin Cool Girl” Makeup
To match her sparkly minidress, Justin Lupe (or fan favorite Morgan) decided to double down on the festive vibe with some sparkling makeup courtesy of MERIT Beauty. “We wanted Justin’s look to embody a cool girl, like Jane Birkin, who goes for a party vibe,” explains makeup artist Tracy Levy.
The star of the show was MERIT’s unreleased solo shadow scene with a soft plum shade iris “with clear highlights on her eyelids.” (Solo Shadow Scene is a collection of six creamy pearlescent eyeshadows that will officially launch on October 22nd.)
To prep Lupe’s skin, Levy used MERIT’s Great Skin duo: Great Skin Instant Glow Serum ($38) and Great Skin Priming Moisturizer ($38). Next, layer on Uniform Tinted Mineral Sunscreen in shade 22 ($38) and The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick ($38) in both Bone and Oak shades. For a golden glow, try our editor-favorite Seine Bronze Balm Sheer Bronzer ($30). For a natural pop of color, try Bespoke’s Flash Balm Cheek Blush ($30). As an accent, use Cava’s Day Glow Highlighting Balm ($32).
In addition to the aforementioned solo shadow scene, Levy applied the best-selling Solo Shadow Matte ($24) in Blanc, Clean Lash Lengthening Mascara ($26), and Brow 1990 Sheer Gel Pencil ($24) in Dark Brown.
For Loupe’s lips, Levy chose a coupe of Merit’s Signature Lip Liner Sheer Liner ($24) and a blend of two Signature Lip Lightweight lipstick shades: Maison and L’Avenue ($26 each).
Jackie Tone’s silky smooth skin
Jackie Torn (our girl Esther) walked the red carpet in a classy and decadent sheer brown minidress, paired with matching tights, knee-high boots, and elegant toasted makeup. But most of all, makeup artist Mai Quinn “wanted[Tone’s]skin to be glowing and to look bright in the photos.” Quinn started by prepping Jackie’s skin with Timeline Mito-Biotic TM Gentle Cleanser ($55), then added a few drops of Timeline Mito-Biotic TM Firming Serum ($225) and a dime-sized amount of Timeline Mito-Biotic TM Barrier Cream ($200). To hydrate her neck, Quinn applied Timeline Mito-Biotic TM Dewy Cream ($200). “This is a lighter version of a barrier cream and is perfect for the neck area,” says Quinn. Finally, she prepped Tone’s skin by applying several coats of Timeline Mito-Biotic TM Eye Cream ($120) around her eyes using a cooling and anti-puffing metal eye applicator.
Leighton Meester’s whole body glows
Actress Leighton Meester (and wife of Nobody Wants This favorite rabbi Adam Brody) is set to debut in season two as Abby, a former schoolmate of Belle’s Joan. Perhaps in a nod to the drama her character is poised to stir up between Brody’s Noah and Joan, Meester walked the red carpet wearing an ombre-style dip-dyed dress in rich, dark tones, sharply slicked back hair, and crimson lips.
Make-up artist Bethany McCarty was inspired by Meester’s fashion, revealing that she “created a harmonious atmosphere by incorporating the gown’s deep blue eyes and subtle plum notes on her lips.”
Noting that “perfect skin is always the foundation of everything,” McCarty prepped Meester’s skin with Bubble Skincare’s Secret Agent Color Corrector ($13) to even out the tone on her nose, cheeks, and under her eyes. For deep, long-lasting hydration, she applied Bubble Skincare’s Slam Dunk Hydrating Moisturizer ($16) and Cosmic Silk Hydrating Milky Toner ($16) for a glowing, dewy finish that left her skin looking fully hydrated. In fact, Cosmic Silk served three roles. McCarty mixed it with a highlighting gel to “catch light along her cheekbones,” and on Meester’s chest and arms, “created an all-over glow that tied everything together.”
