As someone with skin combinations, rotation requires several different cleansers. In the summer, it’s a little more oily and gel cleanser is always within reach. Tatcha’s The Matcha Cleanse ($40) is something I’ve been testing recently. I’m a huge fan of the brand’s rice wash and wanted to try this formula too. Cleanser is the cornerstone of a great skincare regimen as it sets all important active stages that you will apply later. Here is my honest review of this gentle gel cleanser.
Benefits of this gel cleanser
The brand says that this clear cleanser is suitable for all skin types, but I personally think it’s best for oily skin types. Inspired by Japanese skin therapy, it contains antioxidant-rich Japanese Kyoto Macha, and the brand says “matcha keeps oil apart for a day.” It thoroughly cleanses the skin with super-bubbly foam (I love the feeling of all the foam on my skin) and removes all that excess oil. When I used it on an oily skin day, my skin felt clean and balanced. However, when I used it on a drier skin day I felt a little tighter afterwards. The formula doesn’t contain soap, but it’s a creaking, clean feeling that isn’t ideal for your skin. Nevertheless, every time I used it, my pores looked small, no matter how my skin behaved that day. Of course, I loved it!
Other important ingredients include Coix Seed and Willow Bark. These barks help to remove clogged pores and have skin barriers that support Japanese magwart. I also love the fact that the cleanser has no scent. In biologic learning studies, 100% of panelists showed a decrease in oil, while in clinical studies, 90% showed a visible reduction in pores. Another interesting statistic from clinical research is that cleansers have been proven to improve makeup wear for 8 hours. Not all brands test this, but the durability of makeup can be frustrating for people with oily skin. A matte primer is usually required to prevent slipping and glow. If you’re a double cleanser, this is the second step (first is an oil-based formula for breaking down makeup and sunscreen).

Conclusion
We recommend this gel cleanser that will help you improve your oily skin type and make-up durability. Think of it like a cleanser with the benefits of built-in primers.
