This has been a bit of a life, including a tomato-themed dinner in Veritas and a nature hike we photographed with birch.
Veritas Dinner Series
Veritas is one of my favorite vineyards in town as it hosts so many fun events. From Starry Nights concerts to Veritas Illuminated Winter Lights tours and dinner series dinners during the summer. Last year, I went to the French Cafe with a group of friends and this year we had our second annual dinner with the theme of tomatoes!
The dinner was a partnership between Veritas and David Hunsaker from Village Garden RVA. With over 20 years of agricultural experience, David has grown over 400 types of tomatoes and 100 types of chili. We enjoyed lots of summer tomatoes and learned about some more unique varieties at dinner.

We enjoyed the rosé and spicy savory B! I loved the jalapeño and Sauvignon Blanc combo!

menu
I loved the tomato salad with sweet chili, basil and garlic. The best tomatoes!
We also enjoyed chickpeas with eggplants in the summer.
Cioppinno with fresh seafood and shaved fennel.
The dessert was Basque goat cheese cheesecake. (TBH, tomato jam wasn’t my favorite!)
If you’re interested in attending the upcoming dinner series dinner, there are two more.
Nature hiking
On Saturday, Thomas and I took a birch on a natural hike to Ivy Creek. This sweet kid was so excited to go on a hike!
He loved throwing rocks into creek.
I also saw this very cool owl!!
Turtle and rabbit
Birch was also extremely proud to be able to score fourth in the kids running the sprint for his age group at the Kids Track Club! Go to Birch!
When I had a small group session at ACAC, I was proud to finish the run. I’m decent with weights, stairs, agility, but the guy running the track sucked life from me!! Patrick and I tied up for a red face!
Magen has loved his fishing camp again this year. He sent me this photo that was caught in a very green pond!
We finally arrived at the pool after many attempts that started out in a blue sky and ended like this before we got there. Basically our porch pool!
However, we enjoyed a beautiful rainless Sunday last weekend. I have come to realize my dream of doing three favorite pool activities.
Fish Wife
Fishwife sent me some of the canned fish, that I am a sardine lover: Albacore Tuna, lemon sardines, smoked trout. All three are amazing! Plus, aren’t these the most beautiful packages ever? !
We enjoyed the sardine salad at the end of the hike.
Cass eats summer food
Sunday Dinner: Roasted dil salmon, rosemary potatoes, caprese tomatoes.
The best blue apron frying pan dinner. I’m going to recreate this! It was like a broken-down enchilada.
Another blue apron winner: cheesy chicken, beans and garlic bread.
Mozzarella and heirloom tomato sandwich and summer cherry
And Holly’s birthday brunch at Birch and Bloom! I loved the disassembled smoked salmon toast.
We are heading to the beach tomorrow for a family reunion with Harley and Thomas’ side last summer. Then it’s been pretty back in school!
