Called “Bottle Sunshine,” the solar fragrance offers an instant endorphin boost and upgrade to your summer scented wardrobe.
What is the scent of the sun?
Although not a new concept, the “solar fragrance” category is considered a relatively new genre in the wider perfume world. “These fragrances evoke the feeling of being kissed by the sun,” explains Caroline Ornst, senior director of fragrance development at DSM-Firemenich. “The scent of the sun, synonymous with vacations and comfortable moments, is intended to bring happiness and lightness right away, which is particularly sought in today’s often stressful world. It allows you to connect with positive emotions and escape into a sunny climate.

“When we create the scent of the sun, we use vibrant, warm notes to kiss our skin like the sun,” says Ornst. “But this can be a challenge, as this is an abstract feeling. So perfumers can play with different kinds of notebooks to translate this fragrance.” Think bright, fresh citrus fruits, sunny flowers like frangipani and orange flowers, creamy coconut for a holiday atmosphere, amber and vanilla for a warm glow. As Ornst explains, there are also solar agreements, a combination of several different notes. Together, they create a unique fragrance that enhances the overall sunny temperament of the perfume.
