Hallmark’s new three-part film event, Providence Falls adapts Jude Deveraux’s New York Times bestselling novels into a drastic blend of romance, mystery and supernatural. At the helm is actress producer Joanna Garcia Swisher (sweet Magnolia, Reba). As executive producer, Garcia Swisher (via her rolling clover and through the book club) guides fans’ favorite sagas from pages to screens, prioritizing self-care and “messy hair.”
How do you feel that all of these works (productions, books, films, etc.) are all falling into place?
“There’s no doubt the moment we’ve been waiting for. I’m very proud. I’m very excited to have the world finally look at. They live in my head and my heart. In 2021, when I read my first book, I learned a lot just halfway through the development process. For a second.”
What is the most difficult part for you? Acting, production, adaptation? It is a lot of moving parts.
“They challenge themselves in many different ways, but the challenging parts of each are actually what I like most. I really enjoy the creative process of developing something. Obviously, our partners were able to bring these stories to life in the audience and to have a distinctive audience in mind. In the way, they work to make the producer’s ideas come true in a very creative and visual way, but then they support the actors’ journey.
And then, as an actor, that’s what I think I’ve done the most. I’ve definitely done it the most. That’s my first love and what I always want to do. I always love to play. I don’t know I really answered your question, but I think the most challenging part of each of the tasks is probably my favorite part. ”
I know you called it a “little passion project,” but that’s obviously a lot of work. At the end of the day, what do you do to get away from yourself, your family, and your work?
“You know, the person who ultimately taught me how to do it right was my husband. He was an athlete and when he played these games he had days!
But he always left it all. Any sport is clearly a very physical taxation, and the same applies to acting for several days. When we’re playing, we’re dressed in costumes and we’re in this other headspace…it’s not always easy to come out. But it’s very important to let go of it. It’s very important to take the time to do things other than work for self-care, even if it’s only 15 minutes before my Tower of Red Light. Zoning is important.
Now I’m here in Georgia. There, we photographed sweet magnolia. I live in a lake I’ve completely fallen in love and I love this community! You have to drive for about an hour to get to work. It’s time to listen to tapes, podcasts and audiobooks, so I love commuting. They know they don’t call it “tape” anymore! But you need to switch gears. ”
Driving is a good mindset. I know you’re so obsessed with beauty. Can you share what you really like?
“Well, now, I’m using a new hair care line called Massy, called New Hair Care Line from my friend, Alli Webb. She was a game changer for me. My daughter has a very different hair texture, but they have it from me. Even at work, she’s saving a little on my hair.
Beyond that, I will be a Shani Darden Retinol fan forever. I also use her acid and have rosacea. She is my leading expert, my leading expert in OG and I always ask her millions of questions. I feel like I’m in a good zone with my skincare right now. I simplified it, and I’m not messing anything now, especially since I’m filming in Georgia in the summer.
Then I also got the beauty of ZIIP. Have you heard of that?
Yes, that’s good. I’m not good at using it much, but it’s a user error. It works.
“That’s shocking, right? That’s what I’m very interested in. And I love a good sheet mask. I love Medelma. I really enjoy it. I get all these things – relaxation.”
All good things. Messy is trying to make the lives of many people easier. Your hair looks good.
“What’s annoying is magic! I’m rocking it now. This is a nasty magic. The product is really good. Seriously… I was working until 6am this morning. This is my hair! I’m not complaining. I didn’t sleep a little. I’ll be back to work tonight at 7pm.
