Why do these award-winning plants make them special?
One of the many accolades announced at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Award is judged for innovation, appeal, excellence and impact. Winning plants need to offer new important benefits and something special that judges believe will stand the test of their times.
This will give you a little more information about each of the award-winning garden plants you can win:
“Pray my hands”
Mangave’s “Praying Hands,” which came in third place at the 2024 RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Awards, is a rare succulent plant in the unique artichoke shape. The shiny green curled leaves, a hybrid cross between the architectural agave and the rapidly growing manfreda, have scar-colored thorns. This Mangave not only makes great patio features, but is also drought tolerant and easy to grow.
Agapanthus “Black Jack”
Agapanthus ‘Black Jack’ proudly won the RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Award 2023, beating out the tough competition and taking first place. With gorgeous, velvety black petals, this recurring, multi-line agapanthus produces a huge number of architectural flower heads from summer to autumn. Tolerance of drought is ideal for dry boundaries.
Hydrangea serrata ‘Euphoria Pink’
He finished second in the 2023 RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Awards, with Hydrangea Serrata ‘Euphoria Pink’ having vibrant tricolor leaves and impressive ruby-colored resecup style flower heads. Tricolored leaves are exceptional. A silver green splash surrounded by bold white rims in a pink tint in spring. Achieves 60cm tall and spreads, this compact plant is suitable for boundaries and containers.
Waigera “Camouflage”
Weigela ‘Camouflage’, which came third in the 2023 RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year Awards, was born from T&M’s own breeding program. Earn locations in every garden for their versatile purple green leaves, and generous clusters of trumpet-like scar-colored flowers are an added bonus. Beautiful with mixed boundaries and patio containers, this wagela thrives in the sun or in some shade.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show has been held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London since 1913, but can be traced to its origins until 1833. It is one of the most prestigious and popular events on the garden calendar, and is attended by experts, businesses and enthusiasts from all over the world. Each year, an independent panel of expert judges hand out many coveted awards and medals. See all T&M award-winning plants list to find special varieties in your garden.
