A guided meditation to begin creating spaces to heal political polarization, racial conflict, and social disconnect.
This racial healing meditation emphasizes interconnectedness and honors connections with the self in order to celebrate connections with others. Recognizing interconnections, we can create spaces to heal political polarization, racial conflict, and indeed, all sorts of disconnections in our lives.
“I will never be what I should be,” said Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “until you should be.” This is a interconnected structure of reality. Let’s get to that for a moment. This is an interconnected trust.
“I can never be that I should be until you should have been.”
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Many people feel that the answer to a more equitable and inclusive society is to be kind and treat everyone the same way. Considering your own journey of racial healing and interconnectedness, we hope you will realize that kindness and awareness are important, but not enough. There is an essential inner work.
The racial healing journey gently turns one’s eyes to the first job, the work of self-transformation as the key to becoming a culturally inclusive and connected person. Spending time together today, we begin to take the first step towards embracing interconnectedness.
Guided Meditation for Interconnections
1. I invite you to sit still respectfully and comfortably. My body isn’t working very hard. We just sit like a majestic mountain. It is a form of being, but it doesn’t work hard on it. I encourage you to stare into your eyes or close your eyes.
2. And now I like to give this signal to my body and mind. I’m trying to do this as I’ve settled down. What we are about to open is ourselves, at this moment, with complete curiosity, non-judgment and deep self-compassion. I’m taking three deep breaths of this. Take three deep breaths at a comfortable pace for you. And you just need to settle into breathing at a good, cooperative pace. Find your breath rhythm and your out of sight. We’ll be here for about a minute of silence and hold our breath.
3. Now, I encourage you to imagine a world in which all beings are connected to love. And because of this connection, a single being did not harm another. And let’s realize that this world begins with us. They are willing to connect, see, recognize, recognize values, and respect interconnectedness. Continue to imagine what it would be like to live in a world where everyone freely and equally shares deep connections with each other. Start with yourself and start making this. Let’s wait a moment to imagine our own breath and the world in which we are connected to everyone.
4. And now I encourage you to imagine someone different from you. And we know that race is a socialized composition, but that is also what we work to heal. So imagine someone who was racially different from you. Whether you feel connected to this person or whether you know them personally. Imagine someone who is racially different from you.
5. And when you imagine them, I encourage you to speak quietly or loudly, to feel either comfortable with you, and repeat these words to yourself. These phrases are inspired by fellow meditator Melanie Serdan. There is a moment of silence between the phrases, just as emotions settle in our consciousness and our bodies. Let’s do a bit. Connect with this person we visualize. We offer the phrase: “I am open to connect with you, and I am grateful to connect with me to your openness. My love connects with your love Like. I exist and I respect your presence. I lightly and respect your light. I respect your light. I am a unique person and I respect you as a unique person. I am grateful and I respect you for your gratitude.”
6. Thank you to this person who exchanged this relationship with you. Keep an eye on how you feel in this moment. What kind of emotions exist? Do you think there is a connection in your body in this way? It’s just that you notice. Rather than marking your feelings, feelings, and thoughts as right or wrong, it simply comes down to an open awareness of what exists to you in this moment.
7. When you close, pin it to a powerful quote by Dr. Harriet Lerner. “Only through connections with others can we truly know and strengthen ourselves, and only by working on our self can we begin to enhance connections with others.” and others. Think of everyone as happy and connected. Thank you for coming back to us when we send this wish to the world.
8. We encourage you to return your attention to your body. Return to the current location. It brings our full awareness of interconnections. May we move to connect with other people and all living things. Thank you for practicing with me today.
