What is Crazy Cake?
Have you heard of crazy cakes, quirky cakes, or depression cakes? It was a cake made during the Great Repression of the 1930s when eggs, butter and milk were lacking.
They are pretty creative and surprisingly, the crazy cakes are one of the best cakes without those ingredients! It’s actually the most perfect allergy-friendly cake I’ve ever seen!
I first saw a recipe for chocolate crazy cake circulating on Facebook from the Sweet Little Blue Bird website, but it was made with white flour and white sugar, so I decided to do it for myself and for you guys. I wanted to remake it!

Traditional Crazy Cake Carbs
According to this popular recipe from WWII that uses apps I use, Cronometer, all purpose flour or flour and real sugar, it is….. Carbohydrates and sugar are too high on ketogenic diets, or even low-carb diets that are trying to lower your sugar intake.

I was surprised at how decadent, moist and fudged this cake! White vinegar and baking soda will lift it up completely.
I know that my youngest has a nut allergy to the wood, so I chose to make this cake with sesame flour because I can’t use almond flour. I often baked it using sunflower seed flour, but the chemical reaction between sunflower and baking soda makes something that turns green.

Low carb depression cake
One day I made this low-carb cake recipe. Her daughter was recently diagnosed with dairy intolerance. I knew I had to make this low carb chocolate cake for a friend who has sweet teeth, and since my son was there, nut free was a similar plan.
That day there were eight children on her house to gather together. About six of us don’t have gluten-free or sugar-free parents, or on a keto diet like me, so I was excited to see their reaction when we ate the cake.
Of course, I was not worried because I tested it all and ate the pieces and knew it was amazing, but you never know that you are a child….. .. They are always openly and honest.
reaction? Before I thanked my friends for watching the kids in the afternoon, I got to look and all the kids were eating their pieces in the kitchen! Smiles, nods, chocolate is smeared in your mouth!
I was devoured! What shocked even moms was that they didn’t have so many allergens and tasted so great.

Strange sugar-free chocolate cake
This depression, crazy, quirky cake, or whatever you choose to call it, I think it’s a huge hit every time you make it! Next time, 12 wasn’t enough, so I’ll double it to make 24!

Keto Frosting Options
I used two ingredients chocolate frosting in these photos. Other frosting options: Sugar-free butter cream frosting or simply use sugar-free whipped cream or cream cheese frosting.
If you like the peanut butter and chocolate combo, I recommend my sugar-free peanut butter frosting.
Can I exchange sesame flour?
If you don’t have sesame flour, you might be able to use almond flour as some readers have written in the comments section, but since my son has a wood nut and peanut allergy, I am personally That’s not the case.
Also, we have not tested it using coconut flour.
Can I make this recipe as a cupcake?
Certainly you can replace the square baking dish I used with the 12-volume muffin pan I used. Use a silicone cupcake liner to make it easier to remove these keto cupcakes.
