In my recent article about red spider lilies, I included a paragraph discussing spider lilies and pop culture, specifically the huge influence this flower has had on Asian culture. Apparently the influence has been so great that I received a number of emails asking why I didn’t include the blue spider lilies and their meaning in the article.
Higanbana may have a strong presence in various anime series and Asian culture as a whole. The same can be said for red spider lilies. What is interesting is that blue spider lilies It doesn’t exist in reality (or at least hasn’t been discovered yet).
However, some varieties of flowers and red spider lilies have a blue color that closely resembles Demon Slayer.
Take a look at the beauty Mother Nature has created.
Beware of scams
I want to emphasize again that a completely blue red spider lily like the one pictured above does not exist, and unfortunately there are many dark blue red spider lilies listed on websites such as Amazon and garden markets.
As with other misleading black strawberry listings, these flowers never grow as shown in the photos.
Be careful and never order it.
The closest thing to Demon Slayer’s Blue Spider Yuri
In 2021, Japanese photographer Sohbi (@soubi_rose) captured the stunning Electric Blue Spider Lily. Typically, these flowers are mostly pink with a pale blue tint, but the intensity of the blue varies from flower to flower.
The flower features a striking blend of pink and blue, and Sobi captured it on an early September morning, with raindrops delicately clinging to the petals and gracefully reflecting the light.
It’s no surprise that the post quickly became popular, garnering over 140,000 likes and 34,000 retweets to date.
“The gradation of the rare red spider lilies was as beautiful as the aurora,” says Sobi.
Commenters could not help but agree: “I feel like I’ve wandered into a fairy tale,” one person wrote. Another immediately found the flower familiar, likening it to a familiar flower featured in the Demon Slayer anime series. “Wow, so pretty! Just like in the anime.”
Lycoris, a member of the Amaryllidaceae family, blooms in September. Take a walk outside and you might spot some gorgeous blue amaryllis in bloom.
