February Garden Checklist: Task and DIY Project

See the January Garden Task and DIY Project for many ideas for the growth season’s jump start.

Please observe and enjoy

You may not know it under the name phenology, but you know what it is. Phenology is a science that observes the annual first event in nature.

When the bud of the flower opens. When the peeper first looks. When a bee appears. When the immigration arrives. When the light bulb pops up. The list is infinite.

Seasonal changes promote the natural reaction of plants and animals. It is interesting to pay attention to these events and compare them year by year.

Spring brings the prosperity of activities, but in winter there is a unique rhythm.

Winter phenology event

Here, in Ontario, this is the coldest and snowy the coldest in the snow this year. These are some familiar creature seasonal observation.

The tree is naked and the perennial plant is dormant. Birds depend on seed pods for nutrition. NUTCHES and COCTADEES rediscates the seeds hidden in the bark! As the sun has gradually returned, a warm day invites a social rally for wildlife. Birds, squirrels and chipmari are all active. On a warm day, the pond fish move more. Spring bulbs such as crocus and snowdrops will appear early on some consecutive warm days.

Happy February!

If it’s not your favorite time, keep it strong! It’s over before you know it, and spring is on the way.
