Ginger Shot (Booster Recipe) – Sweet as Honey

Ginger Shot (Booster Recipe) - Sweet as Honey

These ginger shots are super concentrated ginger juice that’s great for boosting immunity and health, reducing inflammation, and may even contribute to weight loss. It’s 1/10th the price of store-bought, but packs the same health benefits and no added sugar.

I’m a big fan of ginger shots and like to take one every day in the winter to boost immunity (sauce) or to aid digestion before eating a large meal. Ginger was also effective for nausea during early pregnancy (source).

However, commercially available ginger shots are often expensive and most contain added sugar from orange or apple juice. So if you want a sugar-free version, this healthy ginger shot is perfect for you.

Peel the fresh ginger root and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Filtered water Freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice. Many ginger shots use orange juice, but I prefer fresh lemon. Lemons contain vitamin C, which also aids in digestion, so they’re great when combined with ginger, cayenne, and turmeric. Turmeric – Like ginger, turmeric has excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties (source). It also gives ginger shots a nice orange color. Cayenne Pepper – Skip if you don’t have it at home. Cayenne pepper is an excellent additive for strengthening the digestive system (sauces). Increases production of digestive juices and improves intestinal health. Stevia Drops – This is optional, but if you want to add a little sweetness without the sugar, try adding a few drops of liquid stevia to your shots.

How to make ginger shots

Learn how to make ginger shots, perfect for your detoxifying and health journey, without adding fruit juice or sugar.

First, peel the ginger root. I think it’s easier to peel the roots with a teaspoon, as shown in the photo below, than with a vegetable peeler. Next, cut the peeled ginger root into slices and place them in a high-speed blender with the remaining ingredients (water, turmeric, lemon juice, stevia drops). Blend on high setting (speed 9 on your Vitamix blender) until the ginger is completely pulsed and finely chopped. Stop the blender, place a sieve over a large mixing bowl, and drain the liquid from the top of the sieve. Use a spoon to press the ginger paste on the sieve to release as much ginger juice as possible into the bowl. Store the ginger paste in an airtight jar in the fridge and use it to spice up curries, like in my chicken tikka masala recipe. Transfer the ginger shot to a small glass or store in a large, airtight glass jar in the refrigerator.

Take it out of the refrigerator and chill it immediately before serving. 1/4 cup makes 1 shot. If it’s too acidic for your teeth, drink it all at once or through a straw.

Precautions for storage

Store the juice in an airtight glass jar in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze it in an ice cube tray and thaw it in the refrigerator the day before. You can also add ice cube ginger shots to your smoothie recipe.

allergy exchange

If you are allergic to some of the ingredients listed above, your options include:

Lemon juice – Replace with apple juice, orange juice, lime juice, or apple cider vinegar, but this option will make the shot even more acidic in your mouth. Stevia – You can use a few teaspoons of maple syrup without the sweetener, or try erythritol without powdered sugar. Turmeric is optional. This shot adds extra anti-inflammatory properties, but can be omitted or replaced with an equal amount of cinnamon. Cinnamon is also a great spice for gut health and is a great spice for regulating blood sugar levels. Water – You can replace the water with coconut water for a sweeter drink, green tea, or sparkling water.

health benefits of ginger

Peel the fresh ginger root with a teaspoon or vegetable peeler.

Cut the peeled roots into thick slices and place them in a jug of a high-speed blender with all the remaining ingredients.

Blend on high speed setting (8/9 speed on Vitamix) until ginger is finely chopped.

Place a large sieve over a large mixing bowl, pour the liquid over the sieve, and use a spoon to press the ginger paste that forms into the sieve. This will release maximum ginger juice into the bowl.

The remaining ginger paste in the colander will be used to flavor the curry sauce. Store in the refrigerator for several days or freeze in a ziplock bag.

Transfer the ginger juice to a small shot glass or large airtight glass jar and refrigerate for at least 3 hours.

Serve very chilled and drink in sips or, if too acidic, through a straw.

Storage: Store in an airtight glass jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, or freeze in an ice cube tray for up to 3 months.
