This spring I planted 120 feet of Ube potatoes.
Ube yam is prized in the Filipino community.
It is especially popular as a dessert during Christmas.
Ube potatoes are expensive in our area. I bought ube seed potatoes from Oriental Market for $5 a pound.
Once you have harvested this yam, you will have more planting material.
In the spring you can take advantage of that and plant perhaps a quarter acre of ubeyams.
Now you will officially become a Ube farmer.
The big problem is land clearing. It takes a lot of effort to make a mountain of yams by hand.
We used a bobcat to create the current mound, which took longer than it should have had with a tractor. A bed maker would have helped a lot.
I would like to purchase a tractor with attachments. However, you will need to figure out a way to add attachments to your bobcat instead.
There’s probably a way.
this morning. I met a Ube farmer in the Philippines.
It’s a beautiful yam field!
If we can figure this out, we might be able to do something similar next year.
