Q&A with Victoria Ng

This month’s art is by Victoria Ng, an illustrator based in Berlin, Germany. She loves tackling challenges that have the potential to positively impact people’s lives. Victoria aims to invite people into her personal world with bold and playful designs, creating spaces where others are reflected and noticed.
She says that her integrity art is “to realize that when you free yourself from definition, you open yourself up to a realm of infinite possibilities. A never-ending ‘I am’ sentence. Only a few left to the imagination.” “It’s a story.”

If you want to know a little more about Victoria, check out our short Q&A.

Where is home for you?

Home is my heart. After a day’s worth of noise, my heart returned to home. I feel very peaceful when I sit quietly surrounded by nature. And strangely enough, it’s my little safe haven.

What is your definition of a successful life?

My definition of success is having fun. May you find opportunities to have fun and play, no matter how rainy the day. I truly feel that we can make this choice in life. We cannot choose what happens to us, but we can choose how we respond to it and what meaning we give it. I truly believe that, and because of it, I actually feel like I’m already living a successful life…I don’t think there’s anything or anywhere I’d rather be than this moment I’m in right now. .

Describe your perfect day.

Hmm… A perfect day means no two days are the same?Ahaha! It’s hard to explain because I love doing so many things. This is why I get bored really quickly. What I do most days is wake up around 5:30am and spend the entire morning reading, writing, thinking, meditating, or just listening to quiet music. . This is very important to me. Because I’m a naturally anxious and high-energy person, a calm morning helps me relax and get through the day. I love spending time in nature, near the water, on top of the mountains, or above the clouds. I find that being surrounded by nature helps organize my thoughts and clears my head. It reminds us that what we need already exists and that all the fears and doubts we have don’t actually matter.

How did you get into the world of design?

Oh, this is a difficult question! I feel like design and art found me and I’m forever grateful for that. Without imagination and creativity, I don’t know if I would manage to overcome all the challenges that life throws at me. Growing up, it was always a means of escape for me, but also a way to show appreciation to loved ones, like making congratulatory cards.

When I was younger, I wanted to be a psychologist, but I wasn’t very good at reading or writing, so I thought that advertising, which combines understanding human behavior with design, might be the way to do that. But I quickly realized that instead of enjoying designing to sell or manipulate, I wanted to design to improve people’s lives. This was very important to me as a designer. So the product design fits like a glove.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Like most other creators, I find inspiration from traveling, spending time in nature, and learning new topics. But one thing I love to do is daydream. Walking aimlessly in a new city, purposefully getting lost without a destination. I realized that when I step away from my current world, my mind can wander, imagine, and explore possibilities. This means that many of my ideas often come to me in the shower, on long train rides, and at the most inconvenient times (lol).

What is your dream design project?

Oh wow! There are so many design projects I would like to be a part of…I would like to start my own wellness stationery business. I want to build a community around mental health and help as many young people as possible. I want to paint a mural that shows the importance of mental health. I also want to use my creativity and skills to work with brands that are always striving to make the world a better place. More recently, I’ve been considering going back to university to study and become an art therapist. For me, my dream is to help as many people as possible, even if it means showing up for them and holding space for them to feel seen.

Who are the designers and thinkers who influence or inspire you?

Thinkers: Brene Brown, Bell Hooks, Eckhart Tolle, Maya Angelou, Simone Beauvoir

Artists/Designers: Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer, Chantel Martin, Jessica Walsh, Mr. Doodle, Wes Anderson, Adam J. Kurtz

From an early age, my role model has always been Mother Teresa.

What is the inspiration behind this design?

Ever since I can remember, my identity has been lost. I didn’t know who I was and walking felt like a failure. I was never good enough, and I longed to be more, or to be someone else. It wasn’t until I read Eckhart Tolle’s book “The New Earth” that I encountered these two words: “I am.” The importance behind these two basic words provides more wisdom than any education you are lucky enough to receive. I was very surprised, but this design word was inspired by this book.

How does the theme of integrity affect your life?

listening to my heart. Listen deeply to your inner voice and ask yourself, “Does this align with my principles?” Am I living according to my own standards and values? Is that hell? If not, no.
