What is Thermomix?
If you’ve been in the world of cookware for a while, you’ve probably heard of Themermix. With the imminent launch of Thermomix TM7, I know that many of you may be wondering what the fuss is and whether this appliance is what you want or need.
What is it exactly and why should you consider investing in one? As an independent user, recipe developer, and owner of multiple Thermomixes (and Magimix), I’m here to honestly tackle this powerful kitchen appliance for you.
I am also a consultant and not employed (or paid) if Termomix or Vorwerk chooses to make a recipe, post or buy. This is a big-name foodie who has tried and cooked a lot of appliances and is an honest review of why he might like his Thermomix.

A little history
The first Thermomix (or Bimby) created by Vorwerk has evolved since the 1970s. My journey began in 2014 and over the years I owned six models, including the TM21, TM3000, TM31, TM5, TM6, and Thermomix TM7 (on sale this year in April). Each version has improved speed, functionality and convenience and has become a must for my kitchen.
What does Thermomix do?
Thermomix is an all-in-one thermal cooking appliance.
Blend Chop Need Measuring Ingredients Steam Sous Vide Slow Cook Fermented Food Cook at Accurate Temperature
Essentially, it’s like having a chef assistant who will make every effort for you. Whether you’re making soups, sauces, doughs, or a complete meal, Thermomix simplifies the process.

Why do I love mine (and why could you be?)
As a professional recipe developer, I don’t use the guided cooking feature, but for Home Cook it’s a great way to learn new recipes. Cookidoo, a digitally guided cooking recipe platform, currently has over 70,000 recipes that users can access with a monthly subscription. Covering all kinds of dietary needs is also perfect for home cooks, learning dishes, young chefs, and those who need inspiration and gradual cooking.
For me, Thermomix is incredibly valuable as it allows you to create everything from scratch with absolute accuracy. I don’t use the guided cooking feature, but instead I create cookbooks, e-books and user recipes for the Mad Creations website. My cooking and dietary needs style is better met by creating my own recipes and sharing them in various formats so that they can be used if you are looking for healthy low-carb recipes. Whether you’re a beginner, a veteran home cook or a professional chef, this machine has something to offer.
Benefits of owning Thermomix
For me, it’s a great time saving and confidence that you can mainly set up and forget and let “Sarmie” do all the work. For example, you can cook curry and still take a shower, read a book, get the job done. Overall, I find that I have wasted ingredients and better use on hand, and it’s easy to cook from scratch. The best part is that it doesn’t splatter across the cooktop (and me) and its final easy cleanup. The convenience and confidence to know how safe and easy cooking/mixing is, makes this appliance number one every week.
Thermomix is best for:
hove saves time and effort – no stirring or cleaning multiple dishes for hours.
Cudise Accurate Cooking – Perfect for delicate recipes such as custard and chocolate temping.
Space Ministry – Replace multiple appliances, perfect for small kitchens.
✅ Healthy Cooking – Encourages to make food from scratch with fresh ingredients.
✅Accessibility – Perfect for people with disabilities as it reduces manual cooking effort.

How much does Thermomix cost?
The average retail cost depends on where you are. Here in Australia, the new Thermomix TM7 will be available at 2649 AUD, which will begin pre-sale in April 2025. I’ve never seen it as much as they expected.

Is it worth the cost? In my opinion, absolutely! Many oven or cooktop brands retail on more than Thermomix and don’t do half of what this appliance can do. iPhones cost almost the same and many people upgrade each year! They hold resale better than most appliances. However, in most cases, if you are cooking, this appliance saves you time and cooks more efficiently without the risk of overcooking, burning or wasting food. It helps you save money. In fact, it helps to process leftovers into convenient sauces, stock pastes, garnishes and meals.
Thermomix vs. Magimix – Which is better?
I also own a Magimix Cook expert, so I can confidently say that both machines have their advantages and disadvantages. While Magimix has a large bowl, it’s great for making big batches, I think Thermomix is on top in terms of accuracy, ease of use and recipe variety. Thermomix also has strong community support and a larger recipe database when needed.

Using my recipes, cooking from scratch without filling processed foods in the pantry and fridge, I gave myself a gift of true health and a very useful appliance.
