Don’t have enough time? Looking for a way to pack more nutrients into your day? These healthy smoothie recipes are the perfect solution.
What does a healthy smoothie recipe include?
Smoothies are a great way to get a nutritious meal! It is rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. But unfortunately, not all smoothies are created equal.
It’s very easy to get up to 50 grams of sugar in just one smoothie. That sugar can come from whole foods, such as fruit, or from foods with added sugar. The result is a spike in blood sugar levels that leaves most people feeling generally lower than their best. Whether it causes a sharp drop in energy or you feel hungry immediately after drinking.
A healthy smoothie recipe includes protein, starchy carbohydrates, non-starchy carbohydrates (such as vegetables), and nutritious fats. To do this, I use what I call the “Foundation Five.”
A 5-basic diet is one that includes all 5 elements within the 5-basic formula. This includes non-starchy carbohydrates, starchy and sugar-containing carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and flavor factors. If you are not yet familiar with my Foundational Five system, please download my free guide where I will share the details.
By following this simple template, you can make food flexible, fun, and nourishing. Our five core nutritional meals include smoothies or smoothie bowls, yogurt, oatmeal bowls or breakfast bowls, nutritional bowls, salads, soups, and stews.
All of the healthy smoothie recipes below include these ingredients, making each recipe packed with the nutrients you need to feel your best.
