Best Travel Case: Billy Travel Case

Why we love it: If you can’t live without a full-sized razor, you’re not alone. That means a good carrying case is a must. Billie’s Travel Case snaps onto your razor head and keeps your razor dry, protected, and clean. It creates a tight and secure seal around the razor, but is perforated along the bottom to maximize airflow. The base is also magnetic, so your razor won’t be floating around your hotel bathroom.

“I don’t travel often, but when I do, it’s a must to bring my favorite razor from home with me. I’ve had so many bad shaves with cheap disposable products that I can’t even look in that direction. Luckily, Billy makes a clip-on case, so you can take your 5-blade razor with you. It’s safe, fast, and easy to pack the sled cartridge itself (as well as the handle and all the shebang). All you have to do is pop it open, place the razor tip inside, close it, zip it up where you need it, and it stays closed and safe for the rest of your trip.

“Aside from its portability with this case, I never stop waxing poetic about Billy’s razor in general. Equipped with five razor-sharp blades and top and bottom moisturizing bars, it seamlessly shaves even my thickest and densest leg stubble. I rarely get cuts, bumps, or pits, which I can’t say about other similar razors.

“All of Billy’s products are very reasonably priced compared to much of the shaving market, and this little $5 product is no exception. It may seem silly to spend any amount of money on such a small piece of plastic, but if you’re already shopping at Billy, I think adding it to your cart as an add-on is more than worth it for the convenience and peace of mind it brings to your travels, no matter the distance.” —Nicola Dallasen, former news editor

FAQ

What is TSA’s razor policy?

This is great news. Disposable razors and electric shavers are both allowed in carry-on and checked baggage. TSA only recommends wrapping or protecting sharp objects so that baggage screeners don’t accidentally cut themselves (this is why we prefer travel razors with cases).

How should I pack my razor for travel?

Dr. Vidya Shivakiuma, a Chicago-based board-certified dermatologist, says you should keep your razor dry and protect the blade while traveling. Make sure it’s clean and moisture-free first, then store it separately from other amenities in a ventilated case or pouch. Dr. Shivakumar says that keeping the blades dry will prevent them from corroding and bacterial growth over time, which can lead to “folliculitis” (aka inflamed or infected hair follicles). Once you arrive at your destination, “unpack the unit and let it air,” she added.

How to test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle to best serve you. We check ingredients, scrutinize brand claims and, when appropriate, research peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing every product included in each review, we rely on experts in fields such as dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine to help vet ingredients and formulations.

We also enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, contributors, cosmetic chemists, and makeup artists with varying experience in researching and using these products for our reviews of the best travel razors. Testers considered performance across four main categories: effectiveness, texture, experience, and formula. For more information on what our report includes, please visit our full review process and methodology page.

Our staff and testers

Beautiful items are purchased individually. You might be looking for a face cream to combat stubborn dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine. You may simply be looking around for the latest products to hit the hair market. No matter what you’re looking for or what your personal needs and concerns are, Allure wants to guarantee you’ll love everything we recommend in our stories. To achieve that goal, we believe it is essential to have a diverse team of writers and editors, as well as a wide range of external testers and industry experts that we engage on a regular basis.

After all, can you really say that a skin care product is “best” for people over 50 if the only testers whose opinions were solicited were those who haven’t yet reached the age of 30? Can you honestly think that a high-end diffuser that has never been tested on curls is worth your hard-earned money? We are proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin colors, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds. That means you can get a fair review of every beauty product in your beauty closet.
