Penelope Cruz has officially entered the bob era, courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos. He calls it “Weekend Bob,” and the name says it all. The length is cut from the chin to the shoulders, and the texture is so nice that it feels like it just rolled off the bed.
“I wanted to create something fresh and effortless for Penelope,” Giannetos said. He added a “casual flair with a lot of texture” and embodies “weekend energy.”
The appeal of the weekend bob can be summed up in one word: “It looks expensive, but it doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard.” Giannetos built the texture by drying her hair with a round brush and then running a 1 1/4-inch curling iron in different directions to create loose, irregular bends rather than uniform curls.
For those with layers who want the same boxy, blunt-edged bob shape, Giannetos recommends Great Lengths’ tape-in extensions. “It instantly adds body and dimension, making it easy to recreate Penelope’s textured, wavy bob,” he said. This is a detail that makes the look more accessible than it seems, as not everyone’s natural density will hold such a shape on its own.
To lock it all in, Giannetos always reaches for the iconic L’Oréal Paris Elnet Hairspray ($16). “It maintains texture without making the hair feel heavy or stiff,” he explains. This is important for a style that looks vibrant rather than sprayed into submission.
Giannetos, whose regular clients include Amal Clooney, Kim Kardashian, Camila Cabello and Gigi Hadid, has built a career on exactly this kind of look. Sophisticated enough for press day, yet relaxed enough to wear anywhere. Weekend Bob may be his most quietly ambitious idea yet. This is a haircut that lets you do less and still look like you’re doing more. While some trends peak and disappear within a season, this one feels like it’s built to last.
