It took me a while to get this book from a Chinese publisher. Not only because of the distance, but also because the package I received was temporarily lost at the local post office.
But here it is: a Chinese translation of my book on self-compassion, The Hard Thing of Being Human.
Behind it you can see various copies of my other books written in different languages. I am happy that my work is now available in nine languages. I hope this number is questionable, but it cannot be rushed.
The story behind this book is a little strange. I happened to find on Amazon that “The Hard Thing of Being Human” had been translated into Romanian. My publisher never mentioned translation.
While I was asking about a Romanian translation, the editor happened to mention that a Chinese translation was being considered.
I tried to find out if the Chinese translation had been done first (it was done two years ago!) and found out that there was also a Korean translation, which I had never seen before. .
I suggested to the publisher that they consider their translation procedures so that they can keep track of the author. They are embracing this and it looks like it will be the case in the future. So if my work is published in a tenth language, I don’t have to discover it by accident.
By the way, “The Difficult Thing of Being Human” has been very well received. All Amazon reviews are 5 stars. (Some people have rated this book less than 5 stars, but no one has written a review.) Several people have told me that this book was life-changing for them or someone they know. A woman whose son is in rehab said everyone at the facility found the incident revelatory.
