“When we read about Western civilization, it is primarily written as a history of conflict, a history of who fought who, who took over what kingdom, country, or land from someone else, and who conquered and won. Whether that conflict is Los Angeles or Yugoslavia. , whether it’s Somalia or Ethiopia or Cambodia, it’s still with us in a very obvious way. So when we look at human civilizations that have such a long history of conflict, we as humans. The question arises, can we learn a different way of living?” – Jack Kornfield

In this episode, Jack carefully explores: The Buddhist teachings on community, conflict, and harmonious living If modern civilization is really all that is civilized The weapons of human wisdom and virtue Aristotle’s Historical Evolution of Human Consciousness and Compassion Types of Overt and Covert Slavery: Physical, Economic, Political, and Secret The Spirituality of Truly Celebrating Life in This Moment Wise relationships, living in harmony, listening in a way that respects all people Honesty and integrity that creates a “Wise Culture” built on truly apologizing, forgiving, reconciling and renewing How to do wise mechanisms for diffusing conflict How to stop being defensive and start listening Reconciling conflicts in monasteries and spiritual communities How the “art of listening” begins with the “art of letting go” Courage, fearlessness , learn to cooperate respectfully Navigating life from “Unarmed Truth” and “Soul Force”

“Being able to enter into a process of reconciliation within families, communities, and political organizations means letting go of our opinions and ideas, what we think we should be, what we want, and what we fear. That’s at the root of all of that. It’s about shifting our identity from this small sense of self that we often carry around with us to something much bigger, the common good, the good of the planet, something beautiful and noble no matter what happens in the world around us. It is to do. Towards a greater identity of our being. ” – Jack Kornfield

“We all want that kind of respect. If we give nothing else to our lovers, spouses, children, parents, co-workers, only the quality of listening respectfully. But there’s a tremendous sweetness to it, and people love you for it. – Jack Kornfield
