There is a new challenge at Skool. This will help you grow like never before.
Here’s what I posted there:
Challenge: Grow 500 pounds of produce by August 1st. The challenge begins on February 3rd.
This isn’t as difficult as you think, but it’s not that easy! Are you ready to take the groceries seriously? This is your chance.
Note: It can’t/cannot/cannot/from existing trees/shrubs, but must be annuals. (Don’t worry, Food Forester, we have another food forest challenge.) We also know that certain plants are technically perennial plants like tomatoes, peppers and sweet potatoes, It is usually grown as an annual plant. . That means that grandma can’t go to the tree where he planted and chose 500 pounds of pears.
As an additional hurdle, this assignment will end on August 1st. This means that most people don’t stack decks that don’t have Big-Ol’Dang 100lb Watermelons or VW size pumpkins unless they get a big greenhouse.
Additionally, this task requires a measuring station. See the attached photo for inspiration.
This is a challenge to make us all better, and there are prizes, so maintaining an accurate record is important to make sure you made it or not. We trust you.
The first five gardeners reach the finish line will win a $100 gift certificate at Daisy’s Good Gardens Nursery.
All the rest that reaches the goal will get a signed copy of “Minimalist Gardening.”
The monthly price for being part of the community is equivalent to eating out once. You grow hundreds of produce and get considerably cheaper in the long run. I’m helping everyone get started. If you’re struggling with gardening, sign up! There are hours of videos, plant exchanges, direct help from me, and more. And it’s so much fun.
