Hello. I hope everything goes well. Today I’m going to share with you the best cleansing balms and oils I’ve ever used. I’m a big fan of double cleansing (sometimes even triple!) because this process has so many benefits. Double cleansing is about washing your face twice. Use an oil-based cleanser first, then a gel/foam cleanser. Can a gel/foam cleanser be used only twice? But certainly the benefit of double cleansing lies in the oil-based cleanser first. Oil attracts oil, so balms/oil cleansers can effectively remove makeup/SPF/excess oil from your skin.
There are plenty of cleansing oils and cleansing balms on the market, from premium high-end brands to affordable drugstore products. Please choose! Balms are essentially solidified oils. I like both, but I tend to prefer balms over oils. The reason is that it doesn’t get dirty that way (lol). I’ve tried many in all price ranges and these are the 5 best cleansers I’ve used. By the way, all of these have mini sizes that you can try before investing in a full-sized priced product.
Pharmacy Green Clean £34 – When I first picked this up I absolutely loved it. I got a gift set that included a mini green clean and the rest is history. The solid balm easily dissolves into a light oil and is highly effective at removing makeup and SPF. I was really impressed with this when I was on vacation and it removed all the traces of sunscreen without drying out my skin. There are many versions of scents such as Green Clean, but I think the original version is the best
Tatcha The Camellia Cleansing Oil £48 – This is a really impressive cleansing oil and is very effective against waterproof make-up. I got the travel size version of the Tatcha gift set I bought for Christmas ’23 and I absolutely love it. (This set is great value for money. Read my review here) Would you honestly buy the full size product? Yes, it’s expensive, but what’s the discount code lol But… 100% repurchase the gift set to get the mini size again. It lasted much longer than I expected. Since the oil itself is light, it emulsifies well and effectively removes makeup.
BeautyPie Japan Fusion Pure Transforming Cleanser £10 for members, £25 for non-members – Back when I was a BP member, this cleanser was my favorite. It’s surprisingly light, yet removes makeup well! BP generally has good cleansers, but this is one of the best. Here are my thoughts on BP as a whole
Elemis Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm £29 – This is such a cult favorite and I was so lucky to get a trial size of this at a blogger event which inspired me to pick up the gift set for Christmas . This is one of the “heavier” balms I’ve used, so it feels a bit heavy on the skin, but it does a great job of removing SPF, makeup, and oil. It emulsifies very well (becomes milky with water) and does not leave a heavy residue on the skin.
Eve Lom Cleansing Oil Capsules £25 – I was looking for a travel friendly oil/balm cleanser and came across Eve Lom. At the time, I had only heard good things but had never used anything, so it was a huge leap of faith. The oil capsules were perfect for traveling and were so effective at removing sunscreen and makeup that it was worth it. I really love this scent. It smells like a luxury spa. It is a light oil and can be easily washed off. The capsule size is big enough, 1 capsule is good for makeup and SPF (medium makeup), but I like to use 2 capsules if I have heavy makeup or more SPF . well worth the money
I noticed that most of these are high end/luxury brands, but these are the ones that really stand out. I’ve used a lot of drugstore stuff, but nothing really stands out or worth recommending. I also keep an eye out for drugstore stuff and K-beauty balms that I’ve only heard good things about. Please let me know if you have a favorite drugstore balm.
