I keep watching these gorgeous pumpkin flower arrangements in florists, farmers’ markets and online. A collection of flowers, tightly packed in bright orange pumpkins, simply screams “Autumn.”

How to make a pumpkin flower arrangement
In flower arrangements, artistry lies in the design and isn’t as easy as it looks. But if you want to stab your own pumpkin flower arrangement, here’s how to do it.

Cut off the top of the pumpkin so that there is a fairly wide opening near the center of the pumpkin. Scoop up your courage and make these addictive roasted rosemary pumpkin seeds.
Arrange the inside of the pumpkin with a plastic sheet. This will retain some of the moisture when watering the flower bubbles.
Cut the flower bubbles with a knife to fit inside the pumpkin. Soak the foam in water while preparing the flowers (do not soak and dunk it!).
Choose new cut flowers with strong, straight stems from either the garden or the bouquet you purchased.
Insert flower bubbles inside the pumpkin to create an arrangement. Start with flowers and add leaves, berries and other decorations to create a complete and interesting arrangement.

I made it with soft succulents in my garden. When the weather starts to cool down, the succulents will not survive outdoors. So why not bring them in, plant them in pumpkins and enjoy them as much as you can?
I didn’t use floral foam on my succulents, but instead filled the inside of the pumpkin with indoor potted soil. I do this for my outdoor pumpkin every year. Here you can see the whole bunch of them.
Pumpkins don’t have to have all the fun. This works well with gourds too!
Pumpkin Flower Arrangement FAQ
It depends on several factors, including how fresh it was from the start, what the conditions are. However, I think a good estimate would be 1-2 weeks. It cools pumpkins away from sunlight and helps them last longer.
Like all fresh flowers, they look best when made fresh, so I try to make them within a day or two. The arrangement should then look clean for another week or two, depending on the flowers and the temperature at which they are stored.
